Started playing Dragon Age this week and just completed it. Played the 360 version.
Completely generic world and as close to a single player MMORPG as you could get. Apart from the crackle and an okay story the yapping system is it's saving grace. I happily poured 29 hour's into it in one week and will be picking up awakening when I see it for a reasonable price. Good game.

Graphically the 360 port was a bit of an abortion compared to the PC (everything seems to have been run through a down-res filter instead of being hand corrected (not sure on the PS3 version)) but it's good enough.

Just started playing this today so I'm well out of touch with the game so will probably have loads of questions.
Only a couple of DLC related questions for now though, there seems to be loads of DLC available are any of them worth buying? Is there a list somewhere of what each is? Am I right thinking that the Awakening DLC is a prequel to the main game and if so would I be better off playing that before the main story?

The events of Awakening begin six months after the conclusion of Dragon Age: Origins. The player takes on the role of a Grey Warden commander, who is either an imported character from Origins or a new Warden from Orlais.
Downloadable content may refer to: Downloadable content (Origins) for DLC in Dragon Age: Origins. Downloadable content (Dragon Age II) for DLC in Dragon Age II. Downloadable content (Inquisition) for DLC in Dragon Age: Inquisition
Witch Hunt is the final DLC for Dragon Age Origins and is scheduled for 7th September release.
Edit: Don't look for details on the Witch Hunt DLC until you've beat the game as you'll have the story spoiledLast edited by Adam; 30-08-2010, 17:23.

Thanks, for some reason I thought it was set before the main game.
I've only played a couple of hours or so and I'm very impressed with the game so far. It seems to be far more of RPG based than the shooty Mass Effect games are which is nice. It's a little early to know what to make of it at the moment but I'm feeling very positive about the game so far.
Is there any way to alter the default camera [PS3] apart from moving it around with the stick? I'd really prefer more of a fixed top down view if possible.
EDIT:
I know it's a bit vague but if anybody has any tips or hints at all for a new player then please feel free to post them.Last edited by JP; 30-08-2010, 18:53.

Some of the tips I could give are pretty much game breaking exploits so I'll limit the tips to the most 'fair' ones.
-Get your warrior's strength up so he can use the best armour ASAP. You'll need him to be protected from the archer spam.
-Bow and Arrows are broken and rubbish.
-I'd go for two mages personally, one a healer and the other to use frost spells (and serve as a backup healer).
-Frost spells are great, use them as much as possible to assist your warrior. fireballs are good for the archer spam.

Thanks, this is a bit bloody good isn't it?
Still not that far into it as I'm only level 6 or 7 at the moment and I'm still not sure that I really know what I'm doing when it comes to weapons, equipment, levelling up, etc.
I'm picking up every item I find at the moment as I'm really not sure what is worth keeping hold of. It feels like I've not played a game of this kind for absolutely ages, I think it'd be nice to be able to have some sort of Equip Best (I know there is no best for all occasions) option while I'm learning the tricks.
I've gone for an Elven mage for some reason, in games of this type I always opt for some sort of human knight but I spent a couple of hours on the game when it was first released and did that so wanted to try a different story.

Dragon Age has been my surprise and favourite game this year. I was always interested in this last year but MW2 dominated until I needed a game with a story to get away from all the sport, racing and shooters I play. Picked it up when it was £20 in Hmv earlier this year and in May promptly sat down and played non-stop as a female human warrior. Turned out she looks a lot like Leliana
I completed the entire game and mopped up the other origin stories this weekend to complete all achievements and have also done all of the dlc packs, some not as good as others but enjoyable. The last achievement to kill the boss in the golems of whatever on hard or nightmare was surprisingly easy once I thought about it on my 3rd attempt.
Just the Awakening expansion pack to complete now and the last bit of dlc to be released on the 7th of September to round off the story!
Best thing about the game was how the story from the other characters origins reveal how certain npc's came to be how they were if you paid attention and remembered them from your first play through. Interesting perspectives and all.
Anyway, I'd be hoping for more of the same in DA2 next year, not sure if I like the seemingly dumbing down in terms of character choice etc... But we shall see.
