It's the latter option mate. I just installed both discs to hard drive.

I played the first one for about an hour, then gave up! Is it worth me replaying that or should I jump straight in to this?

If you're still on the Citadel then I'd give it a chance. It does get better.

You will definitely get more out of this if you play the original, so yeah I would say you should play the original.

I'm so hyped for this. Managed to finish Mass Effect this week at long last (ironically 2 years to the day that I stopped, I restarted playing it on 18th Jan and my last save file was 18th Jan 2008 ) and I must say I absolutely loved it.

Has anyone here played through it as female Shepard? I've heard from many that she makes a better lead character but I'm used to the male one now so I'm not sure whether to make the swap in ME2...

I have played through as both male and female characters. Jennifer Hale is fantastic in the first game, absolutely brilliant. She delivers so many lines with sarcasm and panache.

Only thing is you don't want to play through as a male character after it...

I have this on the way to me, I am just wondering, I never completed Mass Effect (despite enjoying the main game, the side missions eventualy bored my brain into submission) but still have my save file and I was quite far in... can I import the characther or do you need one from a completed game?

I ask becuase from what Ive read the game is better with an imported characther.

You can only import characters with a game completed save.

The game is only better with an imported save as your decisions made in ME1 have consequences in ME2. If you made the right decisions of course
It has been mentioned that if you don't have a save file ME2 starts with a Q+A session to backfill the plot like

Did you save Wrex or who did you choose to save out of Kaiden and Ashley and did you save the council

There are also some benefits to reaching lv50/60 too. You can finish the game quite quickly avoiding the side quests but wouldn't be beneficial for your purposes.

So does your character level carry over too? I thought Story decisions would carry over but that's about it, what else transfers?
