Well done Sumo, best Sega game in years this. I had my doubts since I didn't think Sega Tennis was much cop, but this is genuinely bloody good. I love the fan service, I have the biggest, most dumb grin on my face when I drift around a corner in Casino Park in my maracca car while Super Sonic Racing is playing
I hope this gets a ton of DLC. Sega's game history is second to none, so I was a bit sad to see the first bit of it is from Sonic again (at least Ristar got a cameo in it). Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Rez and Skies of Arcadia

I have been playing this on and off now for a few weeks and it's a lot of fun. It took me a while to get used to the drifting but once you get the hang of it the game becomes more enjoyable and faster too. When I played the demo I was a bit concerned at how pedestrian it felt. I'm also loving the weapons on offer. My favourite kart racer so far has been Looney Toons Space race on the Dreamcast and this is right up there with it.
Track layouts are very good, so too are the choice in characters but I would have liked to have seen a few more tracks from different games and some more characters as Sega have a lot of history they can call on. I like the fact that everything can be bought with mileage as this makes you want to play more, get the characters, tracks and music while getting better in the process. There is a nice choice of music but I would have prefered some classic tracks from Sonic 1-3, maybe given a modern remix or something.
I have bought about a quarter of what's available and can't wait to get the rest, it's certainly addictive

Sorry for the massive bump, I know the last post was a while ago, but this game is on offer on Steam right now, so maybe I'm not the only person to have bought this recently.
This is really good fun, the publications that gave this a bad review have no soul. True enough, this is a shameless Mario Kart wannabe, but anyone who has fond memories of Sega franchises will have plenty of fun with this. Most importantly, it plays really well too (unlike Sonic Riders, where is was genuinely a chore just to keep control of your character), although I've still not gotten to grips with the drift mechanism yet (it doesn't seem quite a intuitive as Outrun2, though I'm sure I'll get used to it). There's plenty here for even the lone player too, lots of Grand Prix cups to complete and stuff to unlock.
I'm sure if I thought about it, I could think of some negatives. Why are all (most?) the Sonic levels from Sonic Heroes? I'm actually one who thinks Sonic Heroes gets far more critisism than it really deserves, but these stages might be less familiar for some. I've not explored the unlockable content yet though. And the PC and Wii versions lack online play (as well as some of the DLC, like Ryo's forklift). But ultimately, anyone who wants some light-hearted Sega fun would be wise to grab this from one of the Christmas bargin bin sales.

Yeah, this is definitely a fun game, with solid karting gameplay. For me the heart of it is the 4 player splitscreen though, and the lack of cups and stuff to play through with friends (you're just forced to pick one track after another) really left a lot to be desired. Somehow despite all the decent elements of the game, it just misses out on the Mario Kart magic that makes the game so infinitely playable in multiplayer. Dunno what it is though

I think I've finally gotten the hang of the drifting on this game. You have to break whilst still holding the accelerator, which is a little difficult after all these years of playing Outrun2 and Ridge Racer 7 (where you're required to let go of the accelerator). It makes it all a bit more cumbersome that the aforementioned titles, though I'm sure I'll get used to it.
It's a shame there's no custom sountrack option (at least, on the PC version). Whilst there's a nice selection of music tracks to unlock, it would have been nice to be able to use my own soundtracks to fill in the blanks. It seems that the music tracks you unlock can only be used on certain levels, too.

I have been such an arse to people on this this morning
I've been going for the achievement for using items on people 100 times online, and one guy probably wants to kill me at this point. Every time I went through an item capsule I'd get the horn, so I'd slow right down, he'd catch me, and then I'd horn him and drive off. I did it three times in one race!
Only got the Gold Licence to get, now. This game is brilliant fun. The tracks aren't quite as nice as Mario Kart, but the balance seems about 100x better. No blue shells. And I find the drifting/boosting a lot more fun than MK, too. Yeah, it's a clone, but it's done damn well.
And the music is just utterly sublime.
EDIT: Meant to add, there was a decent number of people playing online this morning. That's pretty cool for a game so long after release.Last edited by toythatkills; 11-03-2011, 14:00.

Not quite up there with mario kart i dont really feel inclined to time trial on this at a quick look but just doing the one lap seems stupid to me there is quite a interesting glitch or advanced move witch if expanded could make quite a interesting idea that you can b drifting with the the stick and yu can combined that with using the d pad so you can straighten out drifts on straights and achive tighter turns

I only just bought this game and I must say that I'm loving it. I never bought it originally because the demo on the 360 had a really ****ty frame rate however I'm happy to say that the full game is silky smooth. The amount of fan service is fantastic and I love the way achievements are named after Sega hardware, Sega phrases or basically and thing to do with Sega. Oh yes, this game ****s on Mario Kart with it's stale image and characters. I'm loving this so much. Even my 5 year old loves it.

Yeah the fan service in most areas is something that is really good the achivments names brought a smile to my face ,They chose some really good characters to please old and new sega games imo.It is a shame they have so many levels from sonic heroes in it could of done with some of the older games designs . I feel that the game seems a little bit rushed though almost seems like they were just going to make a sonic kart game then stuck the other characters in as there , as there really could have done with a track per game character i would personally love a crazy taxi level mabye one going the whole way round the original arcade level . Im sure the sequel will really hone a lot of the areas from this game so i for one am really looking forward to it mario kart needs some competion most of the levels i mario kart seems to have no correlation to any mario game but system wise mario kart is just on another planet really espically in time trial the game is just much deeper .Last edited by S_rank; 16-05-2012, 18:43.
