Time for another RPG crossover, much like Cross Edge, this title has characters from multiple franchises collide with one another. Other than the few Disgaea characters you'll see, don't expect to see much else. They are, for the most part, a group of misfits.
The starting intro that boots up plays out like some very flashy slideshow. It runs down on all the characters who are in the game, as well as some events that will take place. Upon reaching the title screen, there is, if you have the space to do so, an Install option, which just improves the loading times for the most part. The options menu has the usual affair, but you can also change the battle camera to three selected posistions (standard close in on team, side camera, and something that makes it look like a 2D fighter). Upon starting a new game, you're given two characers to choose from, Demon Dog King and Valkyrie. Both have different stories, but the game reccomends you play as the former character first due to difficulty.
Now, the cutscenes that take place are very graphic novel style, but the VA is entertaining enough to ignore that. The plot for the first sory revolves around this Demon Dog King who rules the Netheruniverse. However, he has to perform a ritual where he gets turned into a game which helps keep the galaxy in balance. However, he gets free from being held captive, and then flees to a nearby town. After they (he and his partner) spend time traversing around, a library starts to colide into the town. Demon Dog King decides to start going on an adventure to find treasures within these colliding objects whilst restoring the balance of the Netheruniverse (without having to resort into turning into a gem).
Dungeons are pretty standard for the most part, they all have thier own style, but essentially it's just a case of finding treasure and causing the place to drift back out into orbit. One additional thing that can be done while exploring each dungeon, is finding hidden treasure by pressing the ⃤ button. Beams of light form a path into a random area, and you need to keep remembering where the path ends before you can get the treasure. There are also 'hunting spots' where you can fight a group of enemies repeatedly until they give up, this is also worth doing though to prevent random encounters from occuring, which will give you more time to find any treasures, or reach a boss without hinderance.
Battles are turn based, but are pretty simple to figure out from the beginning. There are only three types of attacks; Rush, Heavy, and Magic. You can push each button to perform damage that ranges from minimal to strong, but the stronger attacks take up more points on the AP Guage. You can excecute larger chains by passing one turn into the next, so if you continually wait, you can build huge combos and pull off specfic button input techniques which allow you to use a special move. These moves can be seen in each characters' status info screen. You can also pass your turn to another character, which will grant a random stat bonus (for the current battle), so they could get a slightly higher defense, attack, or HP increase.
Enemies have a special guage underneath thier health bar, which when depleated, weakens their defense so you can defeat them quicker, though some enemies will get stronger if this happens. Weapons can be customized a little later on after an event, what you can do from there is add custom drawings (known as Managraphics) made from mana to add new abilities or skills to each character weapon. These can be changed at any time during battle by pressing the L1 button.
Now then, while traversing the Netheruniverse, you'll see a ton of floating objects, most of which are just there for the purpose of being there, but dungeons that you can explore or need to head to can be seen around, but there are also some other things worth looking out for, such as secret stores that will only remain for a limted time, as well as a TV that occasionally will have another event scene, which while not nessercary to see, does add something to the humour which the game is focused on pulling off. I think having Prinny in there certianly helps create scenarios a lot better. When you head to the main shopping area where Macaroon resides, there are two additional areas to check out, an arena where you can create monsters using materials, and then battle these monsters for rare items. The other section is a Ranking leaderboard which shows your score progress obtained from traversing and gathering treasure from each dungeon.
I'm sure there's a ton more left to see, what with being quite early in and all. If you're looking for a classic RPG with some added twist and a ton of quirkyness, then it's defiantly worth a check, dood!
