Well, most of the negative traits will be replaced with positive ones as you complete their story personal "class" missions. Except Chloe, who retains her moody trait. It's worth thinking ahead now how you want to raise your troops.

I made Reiner a Lancer Veteran, which was a mistake since he has such low accuracy. I should have made him a mortar guy, since they don't need any accuracy at all. Instead I made Rene a mortarer, despite her having a very high accuracy. Took me a while to build up enough credits to switch them over.

Also, if you want Melissa as a sniper, wait until you've done her class mission, since it needs her to be a scout.

Looks like it just me playing this.

I've hit 72 hours and just reached November. I'm going to revise my original 9 on the poll down to a 7. It's a good PSP game, but nowhere near a patch on the original. The diversification of the classes looked bad on paper and is even worse in execution.

It's November and only now have I got an AT Sniper, and not even one Mauler.

I don't go in for post-game nonsense, so the fact you won't even have a chance to use the later classes in the main is disappointing. I've been furiously grinding to get my troops to change class, and it all feels a bit redundant.

To get an A rank I've been sending out a light tank with a 1200 cannon, and afterwards I replay all the levels to get credits for the troops. It's a bit dull really. I wanted to use my AT Sniper from mission 1.

The first game had all classes unlocked from the start, which allowed for greater diversity in tactics.

still going. i've got one more in August.

only got a few characters as upgraded classes. finally got one sniper recently. only one fencer which i use absolutely loads. plus quite a few shock troopers upgraded.

its not been very difficult though anyway, so its not particularly necessary.

Well, no, you're right. The only time it's difficult is when I've got to win a mission using only 4 engineers and a couple of techs because I'm credit hunting. My Shocks reached maximum class pretty quickly (all are commandos now), because they're useful. I could have finished this in half time if I only used Shocktroopers and the odd Lancer.

What I miss about the original is how you really needed to use all the classes cohesively. A sniper to clearr the distance. A lancer to take out the tank, then an engineer to reload him and the sniper. Then a mix of scouts and shocks to take the camp. They all felt worthwhile.

Here, I'm asking myself if an AT Sniper is worth more or less than a Lancer, and due to the short range of the Mauler I question their value at all.

I'm guessing post game content is huge, because there's no 3 star missions in December, meaning they must all be afterwards. Not sure if I have the energy to put another 20 hours in rinsing the extras.

The story is also much weaker here.

Actually, after this I've lost interest in the 3rd title, Sega are just taking it in directions I don't like.

I really need to get this back in the PSP as Dead Rising 2 has taken over the last couple of days. It's why I bought it after all. Plus I want to finish it off before the 3rd one comes out which is looking great right now. I've heard a demo will be available on the Japanese PSN sometime in November.

              Look out for it.

You can also get stuff from a savefile of the PS3 Valkyria Chronicles and via codes.

                      I really like this game
I've a question can i play throught the game just with one class, and also so how long do you think it take to max out a class ?

Why i ask is because i'm thinking of just play the game with one class if i can like just the scouts or one of the other

                      thanks

You can't. Scouts are excellent the first three or so months as they have incredible movement range and good accuracy but when faced with multiple Stormtroopers or heavy anti-infantry weapons they drop like flies.
That doesn't mean that Scouts are useless later on but their role changes.

                              Finito!
overall i think its pretty good.

the upgrade system is terrible, and its largely very easy. but i still enjoyed it, and am still looking forward to the next one. what with them already talking about larger areas, with more characters in your team. hopefully the story will get back to the (mainly) more serious first game.

I replayed the first a bit after completing this, and I'd forgotten how much better it is in HD on my big TV. No levelling nonsense. LONG levels. Plus challenging with a demanding need for strategy. Absolutely ace.

I like this, but it really wasn't the sequel I was hoping for.
