Dead Rising 2: Case 0 (XBLA)

    Some very quick impressions.

Based on first impressions, I'm pleasantly surprised, it seems very much like the Dead Rising I know and love. The characterisation seems to be on par with the original - the main character actually comes across as more interesting than Frank West (surprisingly, given what we've seen), and it plays pretty much the same. Some nice touches are demonstrated quite early on, like the weapon customisation.

Case 0 seems to be a tad more linearly structured than the original, but they do seem to have made an effort to keep the 'time pressure' element of the original by requiring you to do certain things at certain places at a specific time. Case 0 doesn't offer the simultanious events that featured in the original, but it may feature in the full game.

Graphically, the game is a notch below Resident Evil 5, but does look nice nonetheless. The charater models themselves are nothing to write home about (and certainly not even Resident Evil 5-quality), but the trade-off seems to be that the hundreds of zombies on screen are all quite high quality models, everything looks consistant.

Too early to guage the full game, and this isn't exactly groundbreaking, but I was left feeling a bit more positive about the full game.

    Worth the 400 wot-sits then?
reading the edge forum comments on this has raised a few worries about frame rates, dodgy cut scenes and character models, but the combat and weapon customization makes up for it

There is actually a demo of this if you wanna give it a try (a demo of a demo!). The above is fair though, the character models themselves are probably a tad behind the last 'batch' of MT Framework games. I noticed occasional hitches in framerate, mostly in cutscenes, but I've not personally encoutered any in gameplay yet. I've not completed this yet though.

Don't get me wrong, I still approach Dead Rising 2 with caution. This just gives hope that it might actually be rather alright.

Sounds like the £25 copy of this game I have pre-ordered will be worth it. Looking forward to getting home and checking this out tonight.

Why are people calling this a "demo"...it's an XBLA prequel...not a demo.

^I was being a bit facetious when calling it a demo. It's not a full-blown title though, and is being used in the place of a proper 'demo' to sell the main Dead Rising 2 game, but indeed this isn't actually a demo.

So, is this a game then? I mean, does it feel like a game, or does it feel like if you want the full experience you'll need DR2? Is there LOADS of weapons and stuff to do?

rumours are its 2 - 3 hours long, so reckon its worth downloading and paying up.
is there any mode where you can ignore the timed missions and just go messing about with the zombies?

I didn't enjoy the first dead rising but I quite liked the weapon combination mechanics. Might punt up 400 points for it, it seems decent enough.

The sniper rifle on the roof is wonderful

Anyone had this reset to the title screen for no reason? It happened in the safehouse.

Oh and easily worth a measly 400 points.

Definitely worth the entry fee (though would have preferred to not have to start again after I "unlocked" the full version), but this might (for me) have the opposite effect than intended.

This might well give me my fill of Dead Rising for a while, and this DR2 may well be a bargain bin pickup later on.

Something about the visuals isn't right for me though and the HUD is ridiculously overbearing, but otherwise a fine little game.

This is probably common knowledge but am I right in thinking this is a self-contained little story prequel that stands alone?

it is yeah all items are carried over into the main game, not sure if this has the restart & save upgrades yet.
