I couldn't find an FP thread for this.
Started playing this last night, thanks PlayStation Plus! I had no idea what to expect to be honest, haven't read anything about it and I haven't played too many games that would be considered similar to this (Only Grim Fandango springs to mind, and I didn't get far in that).
Visually, this looks like a Wii game running on the PS3. Technically, it seems to perform like a PS3 game running on the Wii. It seems to have settled down a little way into the game, but certainly early on there were hitches and stutters all over the place, which were completely inexplicable given the visuals.
I'm still only an hour or so into the first episode. I know that I need to get some Demon Broth and a Power Core (I found this out by chance though, because the game doesn't even tell you Max has the ability to look into the future - one of a few instances I've come across already that would seem to have expected you to play earlier games in the series), and at the moment I'm speaking to everyone/inspecting everything in an attempt to work out how I might accomplish that goal.
Based on the little time I've had with it, I think the writing/voice might be the biggest barrier to me getting too far with this game. Sam in particular I find very difficult to listen to - he seemingly has no character/personality (And it seems to be because of poor voice work, as opposed to Stinky for example who appears to be designed that way as a character). I'm guessing they were going for a deadpan film noir style private dick character, but they failed.
The humour I'm finding more miss than hit as well, which is a shame. I had hoped that I might have been able to play the game with my eldest daughter, but the game certainly doesn't seem to be aimed towards amusing a lower age group.
Anyhoo, going to give it a little more time tonight. Hopefully it'll click. Anyone played through the whole season? Does it improve? Or am I being too harsh on it anyway?
