Tried this out. Sounded great at first, until I thought about it a bit more and then tried it. It works fine (after some sensitivity setting tweaking, but it's nothing more than a 5 minute novelty for me. Turning your head and keeping eyes in same place is a bit weird.

Really enjoying the game. It's excellent.

I've edited the controls to how I want them (L2/R2 to brake/accel), yet I am being forced to use the default scheme for the License tests. Is there any way around this? I can't take this game seriously if I have to use an analog stick to accelerate and brake.

Did you save them in the main game settings? You can map and save every button.

Yeah, twice. For controller 1 and 2 just to make sure. License tests still reverts back to default.

Played about an hour or so of this, after my 50 minute install (the patch installed fine here too.) Just a heads up for anyone playing tonight, when mine installed it froze on the GT5 logo so I quit and it did it again. If it happens to you wait a few minutes for it to timeout as its looking for the online network (really dumb to hold that back Sony).

So yeah, when I finally got to play the damn thing it's about what I expected. If you like GT, you'll like this. Don't expect anything groundbreaking, just more content and prettier. Polyphony Digital don't seem to like change, it's still all very clinical, the cheesy menu music and geeky menus remain. Unfortunately, as far as I can see so does the conga-AI and lack of crash physics.

There's a fair bit of loading and saving even with the install but the menu system is pretty slick and in depth so I can live with that.

Graphics are sharp and clean. Those shadows are indeed fugly and there is a tiny bit of tearing, but not Prologue bad.

Sound is a mixed bag. 7.1 Linear PCM is lovely and warm with fantastic engine noises and some neat effects like the bumps on the city highway. It's completely let down by crap collision noises and the inability to adjust individual effect levels however.

Handling is the reason why I'm buying this - much better than Forza in my opinion. I also love GTs gear suggesting which means I can turn off the race line without learning the tracks first. It's that crappy one from the PSP game anyway.

Looks like theres loads to do, with a wide variety of vehicles this time. Karts are great fun.

I've managed to leave dents on cars, which is visible. Not as obvious as Forza tho.

Tomorrow can't come soon enough, going to buying it straight after work! Can't wait. Keep the impressions coming guys!

How is everyone finding the licenses, are they still as bitchy as they usually are?

X and Square should be the default gas and brake.
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

Mine has arrived. The install didn't seem to take as long as 50 minutes on my 250gb slim PS3. So far it seems typical Gran Turismo, very polished though. I've just done my B licence which consisted of the usual GT tests.

Also for my first car I picked the 1972 Honda Step Van which is like a mini box van. Managed to battle it to 3rd place on the sunday cup, despite only having about 30 bhp!

That's right, they are. For whatever reason though, the controls are different for the License tests. Right Analog stick is gas/brake.

Oh man, that sounds like it'd suck.

license test? again? i just hope they are not mandatory to start a career, are they?

also, can someone comment on the progress GT5 hopefully made from this years showfloor builds? most of all in terms of decent speedfeeling, which was absolutely not in place at gamescom, for the cockpit view at least.

only done a little bit here.

installed, done the B license and just a couple of races. just like prologue, it doesnt quite have my real car though still managed a few clubman and k class races.

brought over some cars from the psp version too, which was surprisingly easy/quick. but it looks like you can only bring 50? it imports a list, and then you can choose which ones to bring over. then you can use them in arcade mode. i think they may all be standard versions too.

Are you saying I can't use X/Square to accel/brake during Licenses? I was able to use them.

I went straight into doing a Sunday Cup. Use mixture of Licenses and races to gain extra experience which enables you to use higher level cars and enter higher level races.

I've got no complaints regarding sense of speed in cockpit view.
