when i was looking at wheels, the g27 had a clutch pedal but the gt wheel doesn't.

how does changing gear work is the paddles better to use than the gear stick etc ?

you can use the clutch on the G25 and G27 wheels. its a little weird, as obviously you dont have the same feeling as a real car, but apparently it does give you a slight advantage if you use it. and you can miss gears and end up in neutral if you do it wrong.

Fastest way to change gears is with the paddles, and this works fine on wheels that have about 270 degrees of turn as you never move your hands on the wheel. The top end wheels support 900 degrees of turn. In this mode the paddles are essentially useless as you won't be able to reach them because your hands move around the wheel; that's where you need a gear stick.

How are the harder driving tests in this version?

I still remember how frustrated I got at the A-international test on the first game.

A perfect lap around the hardest course in the game with the car that's most uncontrollable at speed...

They're all very short tests. I've got my international A license and I didn't even play it yesterday. Got to level up a few more levels before I can take my S license at level 15.

It's really bad that a glitch that bad exists after all that dev time but after 40 attempts at getting gold last night on that very test I'm giving that a shot

Just read on GT PLanet that the ONLY way to unlock the Top Gear track is to get gold on the Beginner VW Camper Van challenge. Arsing hell.

                      Rofl, that sucks so bad.

That event is not fun, its crap... but it isn't hard, you just need to be patient. Play it with the racing line on, and overtake them at the bends. Navigate past them, ease on the speed when you think you're going to crash into one. It gets easier once you have only one left. The hardest part is the back of the pack.

I think they may have included that glitch on purpose, the test is virtualy impossible to get gold on the proper way, I did actualy manage it but I think it was after about 500 attempts.

I beat the event by clocking exactly 18.900. Getting that is once in a lifetime for sure. And it'll stay on my results screen.

Never in my entire life playing videogames have I played a game so poor that I felt it was going back to the shop after one time playing it. I really struggle to believe even the poorest entry in the Gran Turismo series could genuinely be that bad.

I don't mean to target teddymeow specifically, but I really don't understand the attitudes of some people in this hobby. Is it not worth spending a little time with the games you buy to see if they get any better? I have been able to find at least a little enjoyment in every game I fork out my cash for, even the duffers.

In this case it's even more baffling as it's a driving game - does what it says on the tin. The only reason I can think to return it so soon is if you were expecting football or something.
I don't think it has anything to do with GT5 being bad, more a case of not enjoying it after 5 hours or so then don't bother. After all, as we get older time is much more important and with the huge choice of high quality games available now, why wait in case it gets better? Play something that is more enjoyable now.

Think back to when Final Fantasy XIII came out. Like many I read the reviews, the slow burning gameplay that takes 25 hours before it opens up. Well being a huge fan of the series I picked the game up on launch, sunk 25 hours into it and then sold it. I hated pretty much all of the game and it had battered me into submission when it finally 'opened up'.

It was 25 hours I could have spent playing something that was more fun.

I gave the game a good 7 hours before I decided that I was going to return it so I think that's more then "a little time"!! That's more time than it took me to complete Enslaved, Black Ops & Blood Stone so I think I gave it a pretty good stab. In fact, after I'd decided it wasn't for me I tried again later in the evening much to the annoyance of Mrs Teddy just to see if I could convince myself to give it another chance. No dice.

I also, in reply to the man Hoolak, recounted tales of me rinsing GTs 1 & 3 so I knew what I was letting myself in for to an extent. I just didn't feel it pulling me in after spending most of one of my days off playing it.

I know it's a realistic racing game and I am glad others out there are enjoying it but it's not for me so I chose to return it. This saddens me especially as I have fond memories of me and my mates comparing cars and mods in the earlier GT games.

With regards to it being a driving game. Maybe that's my problem with it. Whereas I've been really enjoying NFS and I really liked Forza 3 as they were racing games with a sense of speed (in my opinion) this just felt a bit slow.

Isn't that what makes our hobby so interesting - the myriad different tastes and opinions that allow these discussions to happen?
