    Infinity Blade (iOS)

This came out today (if anyone missed it) and Ive subsequently had a few goes (or "loops" as it actualy is) on it.

Epic have been making a big deal about how this game will be the one to really solidify iDevices status as proper gaming platforms and after playing it a bit I think Im pretty much in agreement wth them.

It looks as stunning as everyone as expected, but it also plays great too, its mainly all combat, theres a little exploration but its mainly just scanning an area and tapping to pick up object or open chests, theres no virtual stick on screen or anything like that which im sure will please loads of people.

The combat itself is great, you can block, parry, dodge, slash, use special attack and loads of different types of magic and its all done in a way that is designed for a touch screen, so it feels perfectly implemented (they have you use magic by drawing different shapes on the screen for instance)

Theres also a levling up system which is relitivley complex as you not only gain experience for killing enemies, but you actualy drain Xp from the weapons and armour you use, which means its best the mix up the equipiment you use on a regular basis so that you earn as much xp you can at all times, as a result you have to really think about the balance between using weapons and equipment you like and ones that will give you more xp.

As mentioned the game is played on a loop, kinda like a shmup, wether you complete the quest or not you always start again back at the begining as the son of the guy you played as the time before. All your levels and equipment are transfered over though and enemies are alot harder, its an intresting feature and another that makes this game pretty unique.

So overall I would deffinitley say the hype was true, it really is fantastic.

Bought this myself today. As you say it looks stunning. Even running on my 3Gs it's vry impressive. I'm not too sure how long the game is since I got to the guy from the intro in a matter of 15 minutes or so. I sure hope there's more to it than that which I'm sure there is.

Been playing this on my 3GS and I'm impressed. The combat is surprising solid, still haven't nailed the parries as there doesn't seem to be much between the action for a parry and a slash other than when you do it (which makes sense I guess).

Gameplay aside, it's stunning to look at and like Rage before it, there's been no slowdown and everything runs seemlessly. Well worth the few quid on itunes.

Action for a parry/slash is exactly the same other than timing.

As others have said, good fun, looks amazing, worth the money.

Just started Bloodline 2. The first pass was quite quick, but it looks like there's a different path to explore so I'll see how that affects the game length. This time round opponents are much harder with more health, different attack patterns and more attacks. Whereas the first run was a straightforward start to finish just teaching the ropes, the second run is much more challenging. You no longer have enough shield to simply block attacks and some attacks seemingly can't be blocked so you're forced to mix up with dodges and parries to survive long enough to counter. The super and magic attacks become essential life savers too, time their use and you can effectively block an attack with it.

Noticed that they're planning on adding new areas, enemies, equipment and a multiplayer mode. Hopefully they aren't too far off.

It does make me want to play Demon Souls again. Which is no bad thing

EDIT: Played both routes now (I've only seen two) and they're both pretty short. Worth considering if you're thinking of buying the game. That said, I'm on Bloodline 4 now and the only thing that stopped me playing is my batteries going dead. I'm gonna nail that boss, slowly but surely I'm getting upto his level.

My only gripe with this game is the length, what's there is good but I want more, namely more routes through the castle.

Yeah quite a shock the first guy of bloodline 2, still nailed him reasonably easily but he smashed me up a bit and broke my shield.

            Impressive.

I've stuck 3 hours into it so far and haven't 'completed' it properly yet.

It will only take you about 15 minutes to get to the boss but ive heard you wont beat him until you've been playing about 5 hours so it's actualy relatively long for a phone game, I'm yet to complete it anyway.

Plus they say they're adding new rooms, enemies & weapons in updates later.

I really thought it would suck hard, but it turned out to be a good game.

I'm totally hooked on this. Best IOS game in a long time, plus it looks incredible.

Its good to see debs really getting to grips with the control scheme available AND making the kinds of games suited to this kind of mobile gaming. This nails those aspects perfectly

Couldn't agree more, this game is so much more playable than anything with a virtual stick for instance.

the game keeps getting harder with every bloodline adding special damage and defence to the opponents (poison, fire, lightning, lifeleech, etc). The cool thing is that you try to perform better every time, but the risk of doing so also gets higher because of these added damages making the game get harder in an interesting way on each playthrough.

I managed to beat the boss on the 4th bloodline but will keep grinding through until I get the best equipment.

Thought it's been a great little game.
