I picked this up on Day 1 as I've been playing through these collections as they come along. So far they've been pretty decent updates and this one was the even better choice as I've only done the first game and my memories are a bit hazy of it other than enjoying it. Just not gotten around to it yet. It's a shame if it's not sold well but they seem to have gotten quickly into a routine of just dropping them onto retail with no push.

I am loving Sly 1. It's a breath of fresh air in this current age of recharging shields and checkpoints every 3 seconds. It's brutal, but fair and the added tension from knowing just a couple of hits will send you back 5 minutes worth of gameplay is actually enjoyable. I've just 100%ed the first world, and can see myself going for the 100% on all the others. It helps that the game drops trophies like a 40ft high pinata made out of cheap motorway service station toilet paper.
Team 2, my kids, are also slowly making their way through Sly 2. It's a far more modern beast, but really creative and fun. It also makes sure that objectives, characters and weapons are switched and changed all the time to keep things fresh. I'm so tired of games that are essentially the same 30 seconds of "fun" repeated for 30 hours, so both these games have really surprised and entertained the cavalcade family. And we've not even played the third one yet!

100%'d Sly 1 over the weekend and it was great fun, the port has really spruced it up into one of the best HD updates so far. The game has it's moments and to be honest I found the 1 hit kill system simply a frustration when it came to some sections. There are some moments of bad design too. There's a minigame where you have to smash TV's with the van which would have benefitted greatly from an overhead camera and a finale platforming section with rising lava where the lava's rise rate seems to randomly and unavoidably speed at times. That said it's an old game and it is what it is and it is fun. I'm just starting Sly 2 which is a new one for me. The opening level was well done though it might just be me... Sly 1 I think was better looking.

Completed the first area last night to 100% and I feel slightly disappointed that I let the demo put me off this years ago. Sly 2 is so far really good and the open world change up isn't as dramatic as I'd first feared as all they seem to have done is integrate the hub world and the levels into a whole. Nice.

I'm right towards the end of Sly 3 now and I've really enjoyed this one but as an overview I'm not sure the series was heading in the right direction with this one. Whereas Sly 2 merged the hub with the levels, Sly 3 seems to dispose of the levels with the hub acting as the centre and peppered with mini-games and a heavy dose of cutscenes and weaker supporting characters. What story there is to the series seems to be being wrapped up here which is nice and self contained but hopefully Sly 4 will find a solid balance with some proper levels.

Well, the epic journey has ended as Sly 3 came to an end last night. I've just got 3 challenges to do tonight to mop up the final platinum trophy and then it's all over. I can see why Sly 3 isn't rated quite as highly as the other 2 but it's a great little series and I'd take it over the Jak series anyday now.
As for the Sly 4 trailer, seeing it in a clearer HD light adds to my belief its possibly E3 bound. It's definately made from game footage and the little details in the backgrounds indicate a return to Sly 2's structure with the collectable bottles also returning.
