I think i've done that once out of my 180+ games.

I'm just learning legitimate, damaging combos. I've not fought a single range spammer that knows how to perform a team aerial counter, even when all i'm doing is performing aerial combos using Down+A to build up my super counter.

Tron is lethal when it comes to opening up. Her Backwards DP+H is brilliant at closing the distance, cancels from a standing or jumping H, and if it hits at *ALL* then you can unleash some serious pain either in the form of aerial combos, or in the form of her QCF+PP which cancels flawlessly, then link into Trish's hyper, and then Ammy's hyper for a 100+ hit combo. There's nothing unfair about that, hyper cancelling and linking hyper combos are part of the very system the game's built on, and it's the players fault for doing nothing but spamming basic attacks and knowing absolutely nothing about how to defend.

Tron's standard HP also works as an excellent cross-up as it hits both infront and behind the character at equal range.

Amaterasu's crouching M is excellent at closing the distance and hitting low. Changing her weapon with Down, Down+M gives her excellent range to open up with Jumping H as well, which also goes in perfectly to crouching M then into a launcher.

Closing the distance with Trish, I just use her air dash, Jumping H into Down+H, into Crouching M into launcher.

It's all really basic stuff that doesn't revolve around any kind of cornering at all, and the only time i'll ever do that is if i'm against a Magneto, Doctor Doom and Sentinel combo. Take one of their opponents down, the moment they appear on the screen get a cross-over combination in there to ruin their day.

It's quite basic stuff I feel. I know it gets annoying fighting range spammers, but if you can do so much as get a single hit in, you can cause a ridiculous amount of damage in a much shorter timespan than it takes to keep spamming the same projectiles.

I would advise just not letting it bother you. Online is full of twats who cry mummy when they lose at anything. Just laugh and move on. I've had tons of grief because I use Dhalsim in SFIV. He's cheap and easy to win with apparently. Never mind the fact he's bloody hard work. Seriously, don't let it put you off. Or just play against friends online.

In fairness though, Capcom's never really packed its vs fighters with offline single-player type modes has it? After all, it's a vs fighter- its very essence is one on one play. Who wants to play some shoe horned-in time attack mode or whatever? With most Capcom fighters you get arcade mode, vs and training. If anything, you probably get more extras these days and, most significantly of all imo, you can play online, thus massively expanding the number of people you can play against. What more could you want?

edit- and as Jay says above, you've just got to try to ignore the twats online. Every game played online has idiots, but that doesn't mean online fighters can't be great- they absolutely can.

Rubbish, if it was impossible to stop someone charging at you then this would be a laughing stock of a game.

It's not impossible to beat people who throw lots of ranged attacks, it's not impossible to stop rush downs, or anything else for that matter, that's the whole point! It's like moaning about people in call of duty who go around shooting others in the head.

My tactic is to keep people at distance, if I manage it they'll eat an awful lot of ranged attacks and die (unless they out-shoot me). If they're good enough to get in, then I'll switch tactics, but it's up to them. Silvergun will rush down and batter people, and that'll be end of story unless they're good enough to stop him. Then he'll change tactic. It's down to the opponent as much as the player.

Indeed... and it usually takes me a round to figure out how someone plays. And they can still throw in new stuff after that to keep you on your toes. I put down quite a few of my "clutch" wins in SF4 (and SSF4) to out thinking my opponent, and having a good idea on what they are going to do.

It's not a surprise perhaps then that most of my "bad" recommends on 360 are not due to bad losers on Gears, or NFS, or most other online games... but from SF4 and SSF4! And because I had the temerity to beat them, and sometimes with boring (but necessary) tactics... it makes me laugh at the abuse I've gotten occasionally from Gief players cos I've kept them away with Sagat using standing HK and tiger shots. Like I'm going to let him get in close
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

As a SF4 Dhalsim player I've had the same issues. Apparently Teleporting and playing keep away isn't doing it right. "learn 2ply or dnt bother"

haha...thats exactly why I still play online games...I love the amount of hate I induce without trying. i thought i was irrational and mental while playing games but ive never felt the need to send a message like that!

tho if i ever get a correctly spelt hatemail it's quite creepy!!

                    pros and cons (imo)

                    +looks pretty good
+each character seems good fun to play and more balanced then the previous game
+xfactor move is great (just like the baroque cancel in TVC)
                    +back grounds are really good
                    + i love big combos

-endings suck (and they had hyped up the story )
-even though there good not many backgrounds
-feels like its just needing a extra something another gameplay element
-bit of a bizzare mix of characters espcially on the marvel side and leaving out some of the favs from mvc2 (strider and venom for example)
                    -mission mode seems under developed

Really I don't understand that at all? Trapping your opponent in the corner is a age old fight game tactic, you are locking down your opponents options. The only way you will learn to get out of that trap is repeatedly trying to escape it.

This game gives you all the tools to do it as well, don't forget that pressing back and two buttons while blocking moves your attacking opponent back across the screen.

Spammers? Really can't see why people are so upset a good player will always be able to find a way round someone that spams the same move over and over.

You really do need a well rounded party, and I do recommend at least one of your teammates has a beam type weapon for an assist.

Just had my first go and it's raised concerns that people are forgiving this alot because it's a fancy looking new Capcom fighter. I'm gonna give it time but at the moment it reeks of being a messy, poor imitation of MvC2 and Capcoms poorest fighter in ages

                          id second that.
                          there are some serious ommissions;
not being able to spectate lobby matches and being forced to stare at stupid jiggling useless card things, what were they thinking. come on capcom, arc are doing the lobby thing cleaner and better than you and they are half the size. getting booted to main menu when you fail a connection. having no match controls in private lobbies. wtf.
