Maining X-23 with Chun-Li's silly legs assist, but haven't managed to settle on a third character yet. Hsein-Ko I find quite fun, and I seem to be doing ok with Spencer as well, but not found a killer third assist yet.

X-23 is insanely quick, still learning how to get around a player that's using keep-away though. She has a couple of specials to close the distance, but still not quite got the execution. Her level 3 hyper is fun though, totally freaks people out.

If I get caught though, it's usually curtains. She doesn't have the most health in the world.

Tried Phoenix, and my word you have to be a good player to use her well. You can't even afford to get hit with normal attacks...

I find Dante way too easy to use and can see him being the Ken of MVC3. Which is why i'm trying to find someone else to replace him. Quite like She-Hulk though.

The matchmaking seems utterly buggered at the moment. It hardly ever finds you a game, and it's idea of 'same skill' is pitting me (two stars, pretty hopeless) against someone at 5 stars with a 30 win streak...

I keep getting connection lost to host. Not suprising seeing as its a Capcom game, i just give up.

It's odd, because the matchmaking in SSF4 is one of the best I've seen.

Sounds like it's back end problems.

Whoever decided to code the game so it dumps you back one or two menu levels when it fails though, they need a damn good kicking.

My main team at the moment is Tron Bonne, Amaterasu and Trish.

This is working absolutely incredibly for me - Had a 19 win streak in ranked earlier.

If anyone fancies a few friendlies on this (XB360), add me - EraOfDiversion is my gamertag.

Sorry I left your lobby earlier dude, without the ability to watch matches MvC3 lobby's get a bit too tedious for me. Can't believe it was overlooked with SSFIV already up their sleeve.

I think I'm going to end up going back to SSFIV. Nostalgia bought me into MvC3, but I'm not sure it was a good purchase, just finding it difficult to get into a groove. Some matches just a bit hopeless, had one guy beat me with just Wolverine earlier and he'd lost about an 1/8 of his health by the end of it And wins feel cheap as if it boils down to whose BS is best. I think I'm persevering because I feel as though I should like this, after all it's Marvel VS Capcom. The honest truth is more likely that I think it's naff.

Highly recommend taking the time to watch this if you're interested in a lot of basic techniques that are usable with any character. I didn't play mvc2 and I learned a bunch here. 1h40m though

See I feel exactly the opposite about things.

I absolutely hated playing SSFIV online, I just constantly raged playing against the spam of Ken and Akuma. Maybe Sagat as well.

After learning basic team aerial combos on this, I'm finding this to be very balanced even against projectile spammers and the likes of Dante. Half the time you'll find that once you've got someone locked into an aerial combo, they don't know how to counter it and get out of it.

Tron Bonne in this regard is a little bit silly, as her standard HP attack hits both behind and infront of her, and immediately links into her launcher, so you can do some ridiculous cross-ups with her. The range is brilliant.

My play strategy revolves entirely around getting those team aerial combos out. Pressure play an enemy, and the moment you land a SINGLE hit, combo it into a launcher, jump up and let all hell run loose. Currently at 45 wins 15 losses so it's working pretty well

Do you find many players doing the aerial team counter? I've landed a couple on people, but I wish it was more skill than luck based.

I felt the same about SSFIV online at first, but the Shota spam stopped bothering me because their game became the one you'd familiarise with earlier. After that, anyone that wasn't a shoto was a pain the backside as you'd never played the match ups.

The aerial combo's are the worst element for me. There's a Shoryuken guide that said doing 360s and mashing special is as effective as guessing which counter to use. Stupid damage, stupid hyper build with only a 33% chance for your opponenet to counter their way out or face character rape. It feels retarded.

Projectile spam seems is still an issue as some characters have a larger zoning area with their projectiles than SF shoto's ever had. I had someone using Doc Doom with a sentinal assist last night effectively covering the whole screen with spam that I couldn't get past, worse than any SF match i've played.

The people that do are the ones that beat me.

The thing is, performing a team aerial combo in mid-air has different effects dependant on the direction that you use with the special button.

Knocking an opponent up causes high damage, knocking an opponent down raises your super combo gauge faster, and knocking to the side does almost nothing. You can learn what direction your opponent's going to launch you in by judging whether you think they'd go for damage or combo gauge and mashing either down+A or up+A accordingly. It works 75% of the time for me.

If your opponent is regularly using team aerial combos and constantly knocking you down, you know to counter down. Read your opponent and how they're playing. I've lost count of the amount of times Rivu's managed to aerial counter me.

I guess the trick to counter range spam is to have one ranged user in your party, in my case I use Trish. I fought someone spamming Dr. Doom and Sentinel just like you did - Sentinel I ended up taking out completely before he was even called into the fight simply because every time he was called in to assist, he was caught in my QCF hyper which will hit him even if the opponent's blocking due to his sheer size.

I'm really enjoying this but it would be even better if the camera could zoom out to let you see a but more of the stage and what's going on below ou when you're performing an air combo. Several times I can't see where my opponent is or if there's any support coming in because you're so close to the action.

Matchmaking seems a little better if you switch on the language limit for some reason.

I am learning to loathe players that use Sentinel and Phoenix on the same team. Sentinel spams you and builds the meter, and if you get in and kill him, he flips to Phoenix and is on 5 bars by then so goes all Dark Phoenix + X-Factor on your arse.

My online record is now 7 wins, 43 losses. Yay me.

Ha ha, yeah had one of those. The other good one is MODOK spamming laser beam, followed by shield to stop your return projectiles with Sentinel assists.

My online record at the moment is around 19 wins 60 odd losses.

At the moment online feels like a race to find the cheapest (ultimately most effective) means to kill and then spam that. I've been prone to it myself, falling back onto Dark Phoenix a couple of times last night before TK spamming opponents into oblivion. Always feels like a cheap win but I stopped caring around 50 matches ago.

I came to realise last night that I still don't have a strong main character to build the team around which is killing my game. I'd been using Dante because his moves are impressive and is flashy, but there are plenty of Dante players that make my attempts look less than amateur. At the moment he's not proving too effective. I'm fond of Phoenix but she's too fragile to lead and too susceptible to damage to count on towards the end of the match. Tried plenty of characters but not really feeling any of them and it's hard to get a feel of how a character works online against some of the spam being put about. Might shelve this for a couple of weeks until the matchmaking settles and I can take some time to play with the various characters online without being bodied every match.
