Alternative costumes for three-on-three fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be available to download from the PlaySt…

Yeah sorry, EG says free, but the Capcom-Unity blog post they point to doesn't say either way. Hopefully between what sounds like a bare bones game and them nickel and diming us for costumes and DLC characters they'll decide to release it free.

    Don't hold your breath though

      Thank god for that.

Ever since Virtua Fighter 4 Evo and it's main solo player mode where you go around the Japanese arcades and take on various AI's of famous Virtua Fighter players, I've been hankering for Capcom to take initiative and introduce something similar.

PS3 version. Visually bonkers and wow, so fast moving. I will not be taking this online.

Has about as many modes I have come to expect from Capcom, but Survival Mode is a massive omission, just like Super SFIV.

In all its just about all I expected of the game really, no disappointments. Its so bloody fast though, it almost feels totally weightless

Yeah its overwhelming at first but actually very easy to learn.

All I basically do is; jump in -> L,M,H, Special -> jump up and aerial L, M, H, Special+direction for Team Aerial and repeat basic combo with character 2 etc. You can also unleash most super moves in mid-air at the end of such combos.

You can counter Team Aerials by pressing the same direction as your opponent does. So if he does Special+Up direction, you'll need to press that also.

So its pretty much a gambling game when in mid-air, but it works and inputs are not difficult.

Am I doing it wrong or is the training missions mode really that convoluted and secretive about what you need to do and how you need to do it?

I was a bit tipsy last night, but it seems that you are asked to perform an attack and the only clue you are given is the name of the attack. You then have to go into the menu screen and look up the symbols and remember them, quit back out to the training room and do the move. But as you've not been shown what the move looks like in the first place it felt rather random when the announcer informed me I'd managed it.

Then you head straight onto a combo of attacks that have to be performed in very quick succession, but these aren't moves you've learnt yet either so not only do you have to work out what they are and what they look like, but you need to do it all at once in a string.

Is there a way to put the commands on the actual screen so I can quickly reference them, maybe switch the attack name to the symbols instead? I'd have thought that would have been the default though, instead of this need to dip in and out of the menu screen?

Hopefully there's a simple solution to this as I really enjoyed the characters and the button bashing stab I had against the computer. If not I'll either start drawing up a chart of moves I can quick reference and put it on my wall (though that way leads to divorce) or reach for my pipe and slippers.

No, you've understood it perfectly. Its a training mode designed to sell you a guide book.

This, like many other fighters, follows that tired template of not actually teaching you how to play the game AND make it a maximum annoyance by making looking up moves list in the menu a massive pain in the arse.

From recent memory the only decent practice/training modes have been attached to Virtua Fighter and BlazBlu. As not many devs are doing fighters these days, that just means the Capcom and Namco are the worst at it (and also guide books are available!).

You don't have to look at the moves list. You can look at the objectives for the current mission and it lists all the moves one after another.

The epic intros are a great way to start the game.
Had Deadpool say to Magneto "HAHAHA Magneto WELCOME TO DIE!"
                      Awesome scenes.
Finished it a couple of times, haven't been able to take it online yet for some VS, will try tomorrow.

Love to know what the sub-1.5GB is for the PS3 is for! the HDD activity light hardly comes on, in fact pretty much never during Arcade mode. I was hoping that the whole game would be able to be installed to HDD, instead of listening to the PS3 slims drive scraping away

Namco completely took me by surprise with Tekken 6's practice. It lacked some important things Tekken 5 DR simply featured.

Capcom does the same. I don't get it.

Deadpool says a lot of freaking awesome things in this game. Beat Mags, or Wolverine with him for example.

Is this you're first Vs fighting game?

He is, he also played deadpool in marvel ultimate alliance and spiderman shattered dimensions iirc. The continuity of character voices in this is just one of the things I love about this game!

It plays so well, I've had so much fun with it online and in single player, anyone saying it's half a game needn't worry, it's fantastic and has more than enough characters! As for the single player, who plays single player anyway!!
