As I've managed to beat all four cups so far to gold at 50cc and 100cc, are ALL the unlockables achieved by getting gold in the cups? Or are there some you can only get through other means?

Having said that, I've not seen any of the secret characters yet...

And for LAN play when it comes up... whose memory card gets used? The one in the Cube designated #1?

Finally completed everything there is to complete in 1P GP mode, and yep, you have to get Golds on all the cups to unlock all the secret characters/karts/battle courses.

Not too sure about your LAN question though.

Sorry man. I honestly am not trying to upset anybody by going on about MK its just that this is genuinely the 1st game since Majora's Mask on the N64 that I have been so excited about playing and can't put down.
It's just that Double Dash is bringing back the months and months I spent playing the other versions and my mac happens to be next to my cube so I am on the net inbetween playing it.

It doesn't look that much better than 10.2.8 that I'm currently on though.

i know silly names but it's made a big difference to my ageing G3. Things are mucho speedier.

Back to MKDD is the oval the best track for time trialling (Baby Mario's i think)? I can see myself spending hours shaving off hundredths of a seconds off my pants times.

Not really, its just one long oval so little you can improve on really.
I have played it quite a bit though when I was trying to get used to how to powerslide properly.
My favourites so far are Mushroom Bridge, Daisy Cruiser and Luigi Circuit.

The ship is a fantastic level IMO. So was Donkey Kong's level...and Wario's level...and Waluigi Stadium

Of course, forgot about Kong's level.
I love the bit where you have to take that huge U turn around the crack in the ground, one slip and you're doomed. All the opportunities to powerslide all the way down the mountain are class too.

As for Wario Course, anybody else thinking F-Zero with this one? All the steel frameworks and speedboosters really reminded me of Sega's version of F-Zero.

Wario's course is fantastic. I don't have the game (yet) but played it at a mate's house on Wednesday...almost 5 hours of GPs and multiplayer - absolutely fantastic

Wario's course was the last one we played, and I guess the one that stuck out the most (even though there are better courses IMO)

2, Is there a 16:9 wide screen option?

I note from the manual they display 8 player LAN antics... can you actually do 16 or was that just rumour?

What's racing without a little friwndly competition? Gather up to 16 friends for a winner-take-all, laugh-out-loud grudge match on any course. Or, in LAN mode, you can race with up to 8 players (on two to eight TV's).

1. In terms of tracks that have staff ghosts? Then yes.
In terms of haunted house style tracks that feature boo's then I'm not sure, haven't unlocked everything.
2. Don't think so.
3. From a very quick play excellent but I need to play it more to know for sure.

I can't remember how i got the first 2 secret characters... I think you have to beat one of the cups on 150cc (sorry can't remember which one)

The last 2 secret characters, you have to beat Star cup on mirror mode.

And I presume mirror mode appears once you do either Star or Special on 150cc right? When does the Grand Slam appear... after doing mirror mode?
