Got to add my two pence worth to this thread, and I will also be basing my opinions on one mornings play (about 2-3 hours).

    ITS GREAT

Seriously, it is probably the most fun I have had in a 2-3 hour session just about in my life.

It is hectic, frantic and most of all fun. It is obviously based much closer to the N64 version than the SNES version (which was originally a negative in my eyes) but due to the more frantic nature of the races, even though the tracks are still relatively long (compared to the SNES counterparts), it is never anything other than fun.

Unfortunately it seems it is also rather easy, I managed to win Mushroom, Flower and Star cups on 50 and 100cc first go, and then special cup on 50cc first go too.

It seems 150cc steps up the difficulty though, it took me 3 goes to do that .

Anyhow, the game is not supposed to be about difficulty - the opponents do not have elastic AI, they are believable, the unique weapons are a great addition, co-op mode is nothing short of fantastic and the graphics/sound are bright and colourful.

If anyone is still having secound doubts about picking this up you really should go ahead, it is brilliant.

I feel like I am 10 years old again.

I dont understand this... if you have played 10 hours already then something must be right?!

Are you enjoying yourself? If not, why are you playing it for 10 hours, and if you are enjoying yourself Nintendo must have done the job....

Surely nothing is going to change your views after 10 hours of playing...

I haven't taken this out of the cube since it arrivbed on Thursday morning. The cube was gathering serious dust before this arrived and now it is draining the electric supply

So far I have done all the cups on all the classes including the Sta Cup, I just have Star and All Cup mode to do on Mirror and then i will have gotten gold trophies on all.

Still to sample the multiplayer delights but I will get round to them soon.

Have to say that the wait was well worth it

        I seriousley this game

this game frustrates me more and more, i REALLY want it to be great - the others were (not so much mk64 thou). the more i play it, the more it feels like a missed opportunity. multiplayer races are good, that kept me entertained for a good chunk of yesterday evening (but that was probably something to do with my mate having a projector, every game we played was extra good at 7foot high!). battle mode was completely souless though.

i've played it for 10 hours straight because i don't want to write (sp?) it off after half an hours play (as I have seen done on some forums...), i want to see what extra the unlockables bring to the game.

but the more i unlock, the more my hopes are dashed. each new car looks crapper than the last, and doesen't really bring anything new to the game.

the AI is horrific for cheating, i can be way out in front and just be bombarded with blue and red shells, causing me to loose the race. ergo, there is no reward for driving well, but if you suck at the game then its much more fun... furthermore, the AI is specifically out to get the player, for example: you can be in 4th, but instead of 3rd place trying to win they shoot their shells back at me instead of trying to take 2nd. WTF?!!

i've never slammed a nintendo game so hard, i never imagined it would be mario kart to make me turn either.

ah well, what goes up must come down i guess...

i'll keep it for multiplayer thou

Bloody hell. You'd have thought this game was Mario Kart or something... Oh, hang on...

i see your point, but it does seem as if proficieny is punished in this game. i remember the (halcyon) days of snes mk, when i could lap the other racers - THAT was satisying....

but what have we really got here? take mario out and you're left with wacky racers...

The only place you could lap the other karts on the SNES version was in mushroom cup.

Play mushroom cup in DD on 50cc.

Race well and you will lap your opponents.

On my first ever go I won the first race by 20 seconds.

I also have not been frustrated at all about the cheating - there is no elastic AI which I cannot tolerate in racing games, so I am happy about that - it ruined blue storm for me. When I race well I am genuinely out in front, often by quite a few seconds.

I wouldnt say getting red shells etc is cheating, because it could all actually happen - I have had lots of red shells in 2nd and 3rd, and plus getting hit by a shell doesnt affect you anywhere near as much as it didnt in previous version.

Having said this, I havent done any of the really hard stuff yet - got 150cc star cup, and 100c/150cc special cup left to do, so maybe I will change my mind.

I lap people on 100cc on Snes Mk all the time, on 150c sometimes. In multiplayer we both lap people.

Snes MK was all about pure driving skill.

The AI piss me off in DD, driving skill counts for nothing much anymore. However i totally love the game.

Still not better than Snes MK (imo) but the closest yet.

Has anybody else experienced the CPU drivers going the wrong way around a circuit? I've seen this happen a few times now...

As for the game itself, I think it's great. Much better than MK64 which I never really liked. I still prefer the pure racing action of the SNES/GBA games though.

Yes I know - I remember doing the mushroom cup and lapping everyone in almost every race in the cup.

However on the other hand this is also pretty boring. I would of much rather the opponents drove better at higher cc and this is exactly what they do in DD.

Getting hit by a shell or whatever in the SNES version was a catastophe, in DD it is merely a slight inconvenience.

Driving skill still matters, it is clear, however as you say definately not to the same extent as the SNES Mario Kart.

However, if you want that you should play the SNES one.

I cannot get over just how much I am loving this game so far, it is gone way beyond my expectations especially since I didnt much enjoy the N64 version.

Im with you all the way, i love DD. It was a slow burner at first but its truly great.

I do still play Snes Mario Kart - i think overall in multiplayer its still better mind.

However DD is fantastic and much better than the tragic N64 disaster !

I'm really not liking this at all, had it for a couple of hours now, and everything's just too big.

MK 64 was brilliant. The SNES version was excellent for lap times, but not so much multiplayer (which I play a lot of).

MK 64 gets the most play on my Xbox, as it's brilliant, which DD is not. It's just not fun.

I'm going to check what's out in the coming week.

Gamespot gave it 79% although i did'nt think much of there review and they gave F-Zero a score i was'nt expecting.

There are a few people who say that the AI is a joke, some say the game is too easy and some say the game is nothing special at all in single player.

I still don't know who to believe. Maybe too many people are trying to justify buying DD because on this forum there seems to be too many people who are getting excited, and judgeing by the reviews this game is getting it's not much of a single palyer or multi player experience.

It seems that the sheer driving element of mario Kart is missing from both MK64 and DD, this is just not on.

Mario Kart SNES was a great single player experience and a great multi player experience.

PS don't start with the "Go and play it on the snes then" and get all defensive, before anyone starts.

PPS There must be something wrong with the game for so many reviewers to give it what i consider to be an average mark.

I just can't believe Nintendo games can now get such low scores. What happened to the days when everything scored no lower than 9 out of 10?

For a single person to give Mario Kart DD 79%, there must be something wrong!

                              SORRY

I fail to see your point. GameSpot also gave MK64 a 6.4. IGN gave MK64 an 8.1. GameSpot giving this a 7.9 compared to the N64 version's score is great. IGN...well, they suck and a 7.9 isn't too far away from an 8.1 anyway.
