Am so close to beating the mario staff ghost, I imagine it will be a late 1'26 to do that though
geektanic has set up a times league in the online gaming/challenges folder.

haven't had time to try and beat my times, been too busy with some multiplayer mayhem today! will give it a go tomorrow though and post the times in the challenge thread.

you noticed on luigi's circuit that mario takes that sneaky little side road on the second lap? i'm not sure of his route on lap 3 as by this time he's too far away for me to even see! looks like it will take a while to work out the best routes on all these courses! (hell it took me years on MK64, i'm still shaving milliseconds off my times to this day!)

It does knock some time off but you can only use it on the 2nd and 3rd laps when you have the mushroom boost to get across the gap otherwise it ends up slower overall.
I am slightly behind him in the end, that little bastard always gets away from me. Will get him soon though.

However I have been able to smash the staff ghost time for Peach Beach though. I can beat the ghost by nearly half a second every single time I do it.

How the hell are you getting sub-30 seconds on Luigi's track? I can get 31 seconds with Baby Mario\Luigi, but sub 30 is impossible

How'd you get the Ghosts for the Staff times?

Go to www.mariokart.com and click on courses. Each course has a reccomended time and if you can match that at least then the ghost will appear the next time you try the Time Trial.

My best lap time is slightly cheating as I used both mushrooms on one lap to acheive the best time. Generally though for two quick laps you need to probably try this:

After the starty/finish line you will see a chomp. Turn right on the 2nd and 3rd laps to go down the side road and as long as you use the mushroom boost you will cut seconds off the time. Use the mushroom to cut across the yellow sand/grass to be in a perfectly straight line for the next corner and get 3 or 4 'R' boosts around that corner.
I would reccomend ditching your kart in favour of the Bowser or DK Kart as all my best times have been done in them.

How is the music?

I really like it. There are quite a few tunes I kind of hum along too but I would agree with shortround that Mario Kart 64 was probably better musically.

I would also reccomend the Yoshi Track on Star Cup as the best Time Trial track. It is possibly the fastest track and the number of huge big bends, especially the one that goes down hill half way through, are all excellent for 'R' boosting. Lovely little Yoshi helicopter at the end too.

I'm going to New York on Thursday, I will buy Mario Kart on the following Monday, I leave New York on Tuesday night. Back in Brum with my Mario Kart on Wednesday lunchtime. No work till the following Sunday night.

I can't seem to do the corner boost - can someone walk me through the technique again please?

1. Turn into corner, as soon as you do that, press R or L, and hold R/L.

2. For example turning left (keep holding R/L) then waggle the analog stick right then left then right and so on, until the sparks below the kart turn blue.

3. Let go of R/L then you should gain a little boost. Very similar to the MK64.

Hold R, push analog in oppposite direction of corner, smoke appears.
Push it left then right, blue smoke appears. Release now.

Would reccomend practicing it on time trial Baby Park (Track three of mushroom cup).
