thought the story mode was really good not going to win any oscars but a major step up from most games (though i wish there was a little practice session when you changed characters)

i think as far as content goes leaves the capcom fighters in the dust

The story was excellent because it covered the original trilogy. The downside is that you'll likely not play it again, but there is still a regular Arcade mode. Another thing I didn't enjoy were the 1 vs 2 battles.

Capcom typically includes less with every subsequent fighter they release, and are suffering now because of SF X Tekken kind of bombing. Netherrealm absolutely has them beat here. Same goes for Arc and SNK. And I suspect Tecmo will do also.

Crapcom have only themselves to blame, barebones games with DLC for characters and changes of appearance, CRAP really.

Does the vita version need a pass/code for online play?

Just been reading throug the thread and it seems i'm very much part of the 'i love this' crew. It is awesome and, usually i find myself agreeing with Edge, but they seriously got this one totally wrong.

I bought the new Soul Calibur over the weekend alongside this (biggest fan of SC1 and 2) - and MK is so so much better. The sheer amount of content here reminds me of Smash Bros, which is rare for a fighter.

The story is classic cheese and addictively so. It's very well put together, but i agree a little practise with a new fighter would have been welcome, but that's what practise is for so im not overly fussed about that. I like the 2 on 1s, builds the tension right up.

A really fun, solid fighter. I paid ?44 for this over Xbox Live (i know, i know.... Idiot. But i was being lazy and couldnt be arsed to go to the shops!) - and i dont regret that one bit

Yep, I love it. Though haven't been playing it the last few nights after suspecting it led to a particularly disturbing dream about going for lunch and seeing a place that sold severed human heads that still moved a little like they were alive and in pain. Haunted me for a full day.

That sounds like quite a pleasant dream compared to some of mine

Believe me, you get used to them....

Just to echo what's been said. I had the 360 version and bought the Vita release as I think I'd get more playtime out of a fighter on a handheld but yeah the visual drop is shocking and I was prepared for it too. The game is still there though (and more) which is the main thing but its the first Vita title I've played where I feel I could never show it to a Vita cynic because they would laugh in my face. Its a shame coz the fatalities and throw moves where the camera moves around the action were a highlight on the console versions, they've lost something here because they didn't take the time to do a fully like for like conversion.

The close up fatalaties/X ray moves looked a bit ropey on the consoles as well. I agree the character models don't look great, but as a package it is very good, a damn sight better than any other fighter on any handheld.

While the Vita character models are alarmingly poor and I don't think it's being rendered at the Vita's native res, what I do appreciate are the animated backgrounds. I don't know the big console version to compare so there may well be elements missing but there is loads going on so generally it doesn't matter. Comparing that to what happened to MvC3 on Vita or SF4 on 3DS, if it had to be a trade-off (not sure that it had to be), I'd take the animated backgrounds over better character models.
