Yeah, how you have leveled up means what weapons you can use.

It isn't explained well in the game, but it's easy to see to what stats you need once you know what you're looking at. Definitely use the wiki while you play, it helps.

      *sigh*

I'm really going to have to get this at some point!

Yeah I found the wiki last night. It's a lot of help and I'll be using it so that my pyro is being used in the right way

Be prepared for it to completely suck you in buddy, if it clicks it's that kind of game. I've been playing it regularly on and off since it's release in 2011, easily my game of this generation if not of all time.

Is an fps fix for the PC version officially supported yet? Been mulling over a ?10 copy of Prepare to Die edition for a few days now, but these capped fps reports have me concerned. If it's as hard as everyone makes out, I don't want low fps responsible for my countless deaths!

Well, the low FPS didn't take away from the experience much in the 360 version. For ten pounds it's a no brainer.

Agree with Kingmobster, though I don't know how low the PC FPSs are. In Blightown (the most intesive area of the game, at least on the PS3), the low framerate never was the cause of any death.

Yeah the frame rate is bad in some places but I agree with everyone lose, doesn't hurt the game.

Really want to like this game after seeing so many people praise it but it really isn't "clicking" with me
Worth a try I guess and there were some elements of the game I liked such as the satisfaction of taking down a bunch of enemies whilst looking badass.
I think the main problem for me though were the slow-ish (to me) moves and the lock-on toggle. Suppose I'm just too used to holding a shoulder button for lock-on and letting go to get rid of it.

Your first mistake has been using the lock on. Simply put it does not help you play the game, kill enemies without it and you will get a lot better at this and enjoy it more.

Unless you're a magic user? In which case that has been your second mistake, beginners should not really play as magic users in the souls games.

A combination of the two works best I find. No lock for mobs from the front, lock when backstabbing.

True, but he hasn't played the games before, it's best not to confuse the issue, and I think it's important to learn to play without using the lock on.

Lock on is good for a bow too obviously, but you need a bow far less in Dark Souls than in Demons Souls.

Anyone still playing this online? Feel like I'm getting towards the end but have a few more bosses to go, enjoying it all the way though...

Started playing the pc version. Immediate invasion before I'd even levelled up. Dude looked like a walking nightmare. Led him onto a bridge whereupon he got carried away with a frenzied attack and toppled off the bridge to his death. Feeling pretty good with myself I then get invaded 10 minutes later. Got myself into a section that can only be accessed by jumping off a high section onto a broken bridge leading to the bit I was on. Dude was getting frustrated cos he didn't know how to get there. Eventually I see him make his way onto the top bit where he needs to run and jump onto the bit where I am but I'm now standing on the broken bridge waiting for him (still not levelled my character at all). Eventually he decides to go for it and the second he lands I kick him off the bridge to his death. Some of the most satisfying Dark Souling ever :-)

That sounds epic. Makes me want to start again!
