You should have been ok with the Knight, they start with one of the best Armors in the game and it takes a long time before it breaks during the games early stages. Their starting sword isnt bad either but the shield is a bit poncy.

The best thing to do in Demons's Souls as far as armor was concerned was to get onto 3-2 as quickly as possible and kill Yurt as his Armor is really strong lasts for absolubtley ages, also if you didnt start as a Knight I belive there was some of the Knights Armor knocking about in 3-1 too.

I have to ask, if you didnt get on with Demon's Souls how come you are going to play this game? seeing as its basicaly exactly the same.

I do agree with Bob. Early on, before I understood how to play it, I attempted Phalanx with like 30 grass, a bunch of turps, plenty of spice and a sharp sword, shield, armour etc. I died. The next night I started in the same place as I had the night before but all my equipment was broken and i had no spice, grass or turps. I was in a worse position than the night before.

The best advice for these games is this:

      1. Stop being crap. Harsh but true. Get better at dodging, parrying, blocking, using the right weapon for the enemy and environment
      2. Caution. Always with caution

Yes, you lose stuff when you die so just stop dying!

Easier said than done all that but it's true.

I actualy never died on Phalanx, I only died about 500 times before I reached him too .

Obviously the trick was to stab all the little ones in the back, but I imagine if you didnt realise this and whacked them from the front your sword would probabaly break quite fast.

Its true that, as you say, you need to stop being crap at the game otherwise people wouldnt get anywhere. It's still one of the most rewarding feelings ever when you do get good though.

In my defense I was playing the chinese version fairly early on, hadn't gone online to read how to play it and didn;t even know that my equipment could be damaged so I was fighting Phalanx with a broken sword, useless armour and an ineffective shield. I almost gave up. Once I read up on what the down arrow symbol on my equipment meant then I ground souls for 20 minutes, repaired everything, got spice and grass and turps and took Phalanx down on the first go.

I'm more prepared this time. PREPARED TO DIE!

            And it looks incredibly cool.
Can't wait to have some weapon able to inflict decent damage to the knight blockign certain paths in Undead Burg to collect their armor...and if they don't drop their armor I reall have to find an helmet with a closed visor.

Yeah, it does help if you know what youre doing.

Don't you start the game with a few grindstones on you anyway? if you have one you dont even need souls to fix your sword.

The only part of the game where I really had trouble with broken equipment was the Red Phantom with the massive shield at the start of 1-4. I ended up carrying three lots of armor and 4 swords with me just so i could kill him.

Well this just turned up so while I was installing it i looked at the downloadable mini guide.

Its basicaly a PDf file that contains 46 pages from the 400 page official guide.

Bit of a waste of time really and is basically just a big advert for the proper guide.

Pyro is the best class to start out with. You'll have a combination of melee and ranged and start at level 1 which means you can completely tailor it to your liking.

You get them in the box but you can download them as well.

Haven't downloaded them yet but the guide downloaded pretty slowly

You only get the CD and DVD in the box with the UK version. The US version is download only, but you get the nice metal box

I love the atmosphere in this game. I had a little go on the "tutorial" level which was nice, I managed to die on the boss a few times mainly because the jump down attack never worked lol...prolly finger trouble on my behalf. Will play more tonight, cannot wait!

Ok, this is, as expected, absolubtley amazing.

Its just a much more streamlined Demon's Souls. The campfire mechanic makes it alot easier to grind souls and it seems much easier to level up this time around. But the game is still really challenging, in the space of a few hours Ive already died about 50 times.

I just killed the Taurus Demon and well lets just say that the

                              drop down attack

was really useful against him. In fact I basically just

kept climbing the tower where the two archers were and then jumping down and impaling him till he died

. I'm hoping more of the bosses have little tricks to work out like that as it was good fun.

The humanity system is a nice addition too, although i'm still unsure how being alive actualy effects you, is it the same way as in Demon's Souls? Also when you kindle the fire does it increase your flask size permenantly? I ask becuase I originaly had 5, and then it went up to 10 for no apparent reason, but then went back to 5 again and now after kindling the fire I have had 10 for a while.

Oh yeah and the bit with the

                              Red Dragon

near the start made me poo myself too.

Is there an install / any patches for this yet on PS3? I won't get on til 9 tonight but I'll kick things off soon as I get home if there's time consuming stuff to do beforehand.

                                Thanks chaps.
