finished this tonight and i am still very torn about my final verdict. as a game i think it's pretty mediocre. while climbing and navigating the environments was still enjoyable, the shooting parts were annoying and suffered from outdated and imprecise controls and an overdose of bullet sucking-, rocket launching- and grenade-flushing enemies. likewise, the QTE-style melee combat didn't work very well.

as an Interactive Movie i'd say it's great but falls some way behind the two predecessors. the Francis Drake treasure hunt conclusion is really lame and counts among the most disappointing endings ever for me. the last few chapters feel rushed compared to the great beginning and middle part of the game. visually the game is also inconsistent, ranging from pure greatness to utterly flat and boring. overall a very good game but most certainly an overrated one.

I got bored a few hours in. Doubt I'll finish it now.

yep, it took me 5 months to complete the game. i guess this speaks volumes about the excitement i felt with the game. a huge disappointment.

i am just checking the review scores... wow, how they managed to bribe 90% percent of the gaming press, even Edge, to give it perfect scores is really beyond me.

I don't think they were bribed. Lots of people seemed to think this was the best thing ever for some reason. 29% of the people who voted for it in this thread gave it a 10.

I don't really get it either, it is a game with lots of faults but some how loads of people seemed to completely ignore them.

I think that if you're in the right frame of mind when you play it then you basically end up reviewing the game as if it were a blockbuster movie. Uncharted does that very well so I do see where the 10s come from. Naughty Dog do some bits of video gaming so much better than anyone else it's ridiculous. But for me it was a game I'd already played before and I felt I was going through the motions. Shame.

But in comparison to the second game the gameplay is Rubbish, or at least the combat is. Yes it's more spectacular vissually, and if you didn't complete the game you did actually miss out on some of the most stunning things you will ever see in a game, but at the same time the total lack of care they showed in putting together how the game actually plays showed Naughty Dog are actually far less competent at making a good "game" than many developers, it's only the blockbuster movie type feel that they seem to be excelling at now.

The uncharted game on the vita was made by a different company and had much better gameplay.

I don't think Naughty Dog are less capable of making a good 'game' than others, just there would naturally be constraints put upon what was known to be a title made in a very tight turnaround.

out of 68 gaming press reviews listed on gamerankings.com there is just one single review that gave it a less than good score! sorry, but this smells very fishy for me.

Not every critic is the same. Metacritic offers aggregated game reviews from the top critics, and our own METASCORE pinpoints at a glance how each game was reviewed.

i don't know whether press got bribed or just manipulated in other ways but this overly positive reception just doesn't reflect the game's quality.

both predecessors did it far better. in Uncharted 3 the gameplay simply doesn't blend with the cinematics very well. here's a great example:

Elena accompanies Nate through a series of gun battles, gunning down henchmen by the dozens with the practiced aplomb of a trained soldier or an inveterate videogamer. At the transition point to the next level, Drake decides to deliver a supposedly moving speech, accompanied by music and earnest voice acting, about how he can't risk losing her, so she has to stay behind for this next level. At which point something happens that separates them anyway, so what's the big deal?

Presumably, after two games Elena thought some gun training would be useful plus Drake's speech to Elena would be fine. It's not like he knew the future and that events would seperate them anyway.

It's player dependent like usual, on release some didn't like the 4-way aiming which is fine though sorted now, then there's the way enemies are handled during combat which is personal choice again. I find UC3 to be the easiest UC yet so don't really have much in the way of complaints. Looking back it might be the weakest UC game in some regards but it's certainly not a poor game

I still don't understand how anyone could say this is the easiest uncharted game. If you're good at the previous games you could probabaly complete them without dying, they aren't hard. However this entry is unfair, even if you're the greatest gamer on the planet you're still going to die at points when enemies teleport directly behind you and blast you in the head with a shotgun, or at one of the many moments where enemies synchronise their efforts and throw 45 grendades at you which land all around you in an exact circle and you have absolubtley no means of escapes.

Plus there's the fact that enemies spawn from every possible angle whenever a shoot out starts and you have no where to hide..... It's an absolubte farce in regards to its combat.

Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm just awesome at it ( ) but UC3 on Crushing is a breeze. It wasn't long ago I went through UC1 and I had more sticking points in that than I did this and even UC2 has it's awkward spamming spots. I just find it quite easy to navigate my position in relation to where I expect enemies to appear from, they do appear from all angles but it's not purely random.

In fact, it might be being very familiar with the multiplayer that's made the difference for me. There's no hanging back with all enemies in front for that either.

well, a friend of mine also doesn't get my complaints and claims the combat was easy for him. so maybe Nauthy Dog ramped up the difficulty with a patch.

however, i would consider myself decently skilled at 3rd person shooters but i died countless times here on normal difficulty. mostly due to the lack of proper cover and overprotected and overpowered enemies, which never seem to run out of grenades and rockets. poor spawning did the rest for me to make the combat a mostly annoying affair.

Well you said yourself enemeies are spawning from all sides... So it's actually impossible to navigate yourself into a decent position.. There are points in the game where no matter where you duck into cover someone will be behind you to shoot you in the back of the head.

Theres a bit I remember where you are suppose to attempt to be stealthy, but there's not actually any way to be stealthy becuase once you get past a certain point the bad guys realise you are in the room even though no one is looking at you, then enemies come from above, from a door to your right, from in front of you, and from behind you. The game doesn't require skill, so it doesn't matter how good you are at this point sorry to say.... It requires you to run from corner to corner of the room blasting bad guys in The face and hoping that you can kill them before they kill you. Its at these points that you realise that Uncharted 3 isn't a cover based shooter at all, it's just a mental frag fest that's balanced way too far in the enemies favor.

Its worth pointing out that although this game is unfair you won't actually be dying all the time (unlike say, max payne 3 which I'm currently slogging through) but every time you do die in uncharted 3 it feels like it is the games fault, not your own, and that is the very worst thing a videogame can do IMO.

                              Bump.

Does anybody play MP on this? I had a go today for about an hour and I'm quickly coming around to the opinion that it isn't much cop.

It seems to suffer from the same issues as CoD in that I can shoot someone 20 times in the face and nothing happens and then my opponent sneezes and I die.

Its a shame as the idea of modes like Plunder is great but finding enjoyment in it is proving difficult.

Did we play the same game, or are you just **** at finding cover spots?

I personally found this to be the easiest in the series on crushing. If it was the same length as the first game, I'm sure I'd be able to do it well under the 6 hours it took me to do that on crushing.
