Enjoyed Twin Snakes, as a metal gear fan it ticked the boxes, but was too easy and the fundamental changes to the characters were rediculous...why would Snake pull a gun on Baker because he didn't remember the code??!! Some were fun though, the stupid amount of headbutts to Liquids face at the end were hilarious.

Not a patch on the original though! Not rose tinted glasses either, a recent play through of the original showed it stands the test of time very well.

Or the original on the Dreamcast using Bleemcast . Or MGS integral on PC.

5hrs of MGS3 and hating every second tbh

Fiddly controls, awful voice acting, cut scenes as tedious as can be and so "hilariously" self aware...even trying to save gets you a 300hour chat about Godzilla films. Spend more time eating snakes than doing anything else and just as you think you are going to get some decent action.....a cut scene takes over and everyone is killed for you.

I knew there must have been a reason this series passed me by, I thought it was because I was never really a 'Playstation-er' but (and these complaints are obviously old ones to you guys but to me this game is brand new) I honestly cant see the appeal.

On the plus side Eva has nice boobs and the old MSX games are included and mildly diverting but other than that this is the worst buy I have made since Metro 2033 or Turning Point Fall of Liberty.

Though at least Birmingham gamestation will have a copy instock tomorrow

The start the game is particuarly chat heavy, it gets a bit more gamey after a while.

But as you say, they are old complaints, albeit common ones, you aren't alone in feeling the way you do.

In MGS3, Is there a way to lock on to enemies with a weapon? Is there a way to strafe with a weapon when it is out? It seems as though one is literally glued to the spot when readying a weapon. I find it frustrating at times when you are pointing in a direction, and when you ready a weapon its pointing somewhere else.

I can imagine MGS3 not having aged well. I haven't played it for ages but I already found MGS4's controls to be clunky and outdated.

What I remember is that you constantly need to dive in the convoluted menu for every single cut or poison dart you receive. I hated that back then, and I probably hate it all the more now. The vanilla MGS3 was even more terrible because of its fixed bird cam.

This is why I'm still not certain if I should buy it or not. I did like Peace Walker on PSP, but beat it already.

MGS 3 was rubbish even when it came out IMO, very polished with high production values, but horrible gameplay.

Does the version on here have the improved camera or do you have to make do with the rubbish overhead one?

Also Peacewalker is actually good, but like many games the controls on the PSP weren't very good at all, have they improved them for this?

Its Subsistance with the right analog stick controlling the camera.
Likewise with Peace walker with the right stick controlling camera, crouch toggle has been moved to cross/A, reload to circle/B, context sensitive action (wallpress etc) to triangle/Y.
Also selection of items/ weapon is moved to the triggers like regular MGS

I was the same as this but I stuck with it and loved it in the end. On the PS2 there are some nasty control choices and some really boring sections but in the end I couldn't get enough of it.

Really enjoying this, got it on PS3.

I'm playing this in story order so MGS3 first. It looks great and running at 60FPS.

Looking forward to playing Peacewalker as I never got round to playing it and I might have another play through Twin Snakes before playing MGS 2. Surprised how well Twin Snakes still looks these days especially in pro scan.

Hours worth here, if only I had the time!

I never understood why MGS always kept this bull**** gameplay. There were like 3 or 4 Splinter Cell games when MGS4 came around. And you still had to press and hold various buttons plus analog sticks to grab and drag someone. Or how about shoot from cover, takes ages to do so. They could easily make it context sensitive like SC.

Yeah MGS 4 played far from perfectly but one of the reasons it was a massive improvement over the third game was it no longer relied so much on stealth based gameplay. This may sound weird considering that the series is based around sneaking about but the fact is that I feel the stealth gameplay has always been the weakest thing about the series.

MGS 3 is also one of the most needlessly complicated games ever made with all the cqc and bandaging yourself up garbage. It's not fun at all.

Funny that SC should get mentioned again in conjunction with MGS. I recently retried the HD Splinter Cells and found them to play a lot worse than Metal Gear and to have pretty much aged too much to be much fun. Chaos Theory held up okay, especially visually, but is so dry it was dull. MGS has always been marmite gaming and if it didn't appeal before this HD collection won't change things one bit but personally MGS3 was always the best entry because the action (in the latter half) and story were brilliant. The healing etc takes all of two seconds to do and unless you're no good at the game doesn't need doing often as it's an easy game to go through.

Agree with ctn. You're either a sc or mgs man. Sc never gelled with me. Took itself too seriously and I would often be 'discovered' without knowing why. I love the quirkiness and characters in the MGS games.

Just saw Kokima tweet about the vita versions of mgs2 and mgs3 hd. Nice.
