sorry, to hear the sound also hasn't improved a bit. a shame really.

in respect to your sound quality judgement i have to disagree. the sound FX, especially the "stylish" voice samples are crappy and really need fixing. and i also play my old school stuff using decent equipment including a Yamaha RX-V3067 with sound enhancer - even though it's not needed to tell the poor quality here. just compare Under Defeat's sound with Einh?nder for exmaple and you get it.

Ah, I know the effects are crappy but IMO it adds the the charm of the game. I'll be featuring the 360 version of Under Defeat on the next Retro Core show due out in a few days. It's been a very long time since I played the DC version but I'm sure they are the same. You'll be able to tell from the video.

They are all the same. I'm with Yakumo though, it's an over-use of effects to make it sound like a radio rather than a low bitrate audio sample. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. The bigger problem with HD is they've re-balanced the audio and now the machine gun is so loud you can't hear when your option is ready.

i don't think i get your point, really. because you can easily make voice samples sound like radio chatter without compromising comprehensibility. maybe you would think different if the radio chatter was in English instead of German.

oh, and gun sounds are also messed up? great. oh my, overall i have the feeling that i have to stick with my DC copy a little while longer.

Picked up the 360 version this week. New Order mode makes it worth the purchase alone. It's fantastic. The greater rotation angles and bigger play area really add to it (not quite Zero Gunner II levels of freedom but what there is is fantastic). And everything's just feels so much bigger and faster. And more challenging (took me a few goes to get off the first level). I like it a lot.

i know there are a few ropey samples with the voices - what i'm taking about is an LPCM uncompressed music track as oppossed to the xbox 360 Dolby Digital output.

The music tracks on ALL Under Defeat versions including the Dreamcast bonus audio CD is of lower quality than you'd expect. That's how it was made. Having it uncompressed on a PS3 would made no difference in the quality. It's like taking a 128khz MP3 and re-encoding it at 320khz. You'll still get the same crappy quality. Not that the quality of Under Defeat audio is that bad. The sound effects really do need a boost though.

ok, my amp is decoding a lossless 7.1 audio track (ps3). I think the sound is great TBH. The radio chatter is just right. Nasty FX issue with the helicopter though - the gunfire is too loud and the explosions are too weak (balance is not as good as the DC versions audio, but clarity is better)

THe HD upgrade is subtle, but I spotted more detail (verus VGA on the DC); especially on the helicopter the tanks. The new remix is very nice everything is so much clearer. You can even tell that the grunt tanks are based on jagdpanthers, tigers and mark IV's and their camo is much more noticable. These are 2nd world war tanks - i love the mix with old and new technology that you fight - alot of the larger enemy vehicles look based on nazi paper concept/prototype aircraft and ground vehicles.

pleased with this - oh and the new twinstick control scheme is excellent
