might end up a ?100 collectors piece....that will be great because the money from it would buy a ps2 and sh1/2/3.

Thats the only possible plus in this situation.

I think he means the SH collection on PS2

Although, to be honest it might not be worth the price, can get 2,3 & 4 for about ?5-6 each, so may be easier picking them up

I only had the time to reach the first save point of SH2 last night so haven't had a chance to encounter any issues yet but the most striking thing about the game is how stunning it still looks... well, until any issues arrive.

Only a little way in; just stumbled upon Pyramid Head exercising his rites of passage with a couple of 'quins. It's a very dark game. Though the atmosphere doesn't feel quite as full on as I remember (I noticed the sfx on the stairwell in the apartment building seem to be absent).

But my relative lack of familiarity beyond that is a bit of a blessing I suppose. The game does chug in exterior areas but interiors seem to be fine so far.

Interesting, although it should have never been released the way it was. Makes you wonder if the whole "we lost the source code" excuse was pure bs.

Either way, i'd be interested to hear how much of an improvement this makes on ps3 if anyone is still playing this?

Some early impressions on the new patch from
Neogaf... Sound like it certainly isn't perfect...

Here's what I've noticed so far in Silent Hill 3:

-The shadowing is horrible. I don't know if it was like this before, but I'm noticing it everywhere. Shadows are usually very jaggy and pixelated. Sometimes part of the shadow is missing such as the gun in the clothing store, or the shadow under Douglas' foot.

-The voice-synching is much better now. I've only reached the point where they drive to Silent Hill, but so far all dialogue seems to match their mouth movements.

-There seems to be more fog in the amusement park, but I haven't seen the streets of Silent Hill yet.

-There seem to be some audio glitches and missing sounds, though. For example, the UFO ending does not have music while Heather explains what happened. I also noticed the ambient noise in the amusement park cutting out after a while and did not return. During the rooftop cutscene, the Missionary did not make any noise until it approaches Heather just as it transitions into gameplay.

-The running animation slowdown seems to have been fixed, and the framerate appears to be more stable now. However, I have noticed some stuttering and the screen froze for about two seconds after getting hit by an enemy on the subway train.

-The "noise effect" is more noticeable now, but isn't nearly as apparent as the PS2 version.

                Thread Ressurection!!!

Only now managed to play through the games again following the second patch (1.01 for euro,1.02 for US) and... It's ever so slightly better, but still pretty f-ing bad!!

I ask anyone who is slightly interested in Silent Hill, Konami, this whole HD rerelease debacle, or just people who like bull****ter game devs being caught out- to watch these vids.

They are a complete rundown of everything about this collection from gameplay issues, removal of sounds, changes of voice, the developers slagging off fans- everything. Its long but worth it, they do a better job of informing than I ever could!

Videos are quite amusing, even if the fans doing it clearly don't fully understand how games companies work.

That said even I can't believe how poor the HD collection is guess I'll stick with the PS2 version.

I agree they ramble on a bit, and their attempts at humour miss the mark completely - but the facts, the quotes, the sound/image comparisons and everything else they show Konami/Hijinx/Hulett up for is genius.

Geeky though they are, those vids are excellent, punchy, deftly sticking to the numerate points throughout, and the bit about the sound fx had me in stitches. Love the constant, sad tweets from Masahiro Ito, obviously so passionate about the original vision and upset at the way these bozos were wrecking and de-arting it. It's sickening how big Hulett's ego got and that McG boitch just seems like a hideous person, some f*cking harpy-type entity, these guys are automatons. Can't believe Hulett originally had the audacity to alter the script of the game, ffs, though he failed, thank f*ck! Even the MUSIC. And they descuzzed SH2!!! Anyway, that looks seriously shoddy.

I was firmly in the "it can't be THAT bad, surely?" camp and was gonna buy this once it drops down to a tenner but I shan't be buying it on principle now, not at any price.

PS: I originally asked a question about the PS2's 'Emotion Engine', if it was more powerful in anyway than current gen stuff, and it seems that the fogging fx caused a MAJOR prob when making these ports - bad emulation, or is it something the PS3 and 360 can't really do that well?

Its nothing that couldnt be done by a competent team, unfortunately Hijinx (judging from their previous output) just arent.

I finished SH3 on the weekend too. All the fog in Silent Hill is now blue. Honest to god bright blue.

                          Those were excellent!

Best and most thorough dissecting I've seen since that Star War Episode 1 vid years ago.
