There's been a phenominal amount of downtime / Error 37 on UK based servers over the last... 2, 3 days straight I think?
Since the last patch they implemented, there's been a LOT of emergency downtime. By a lot I mean I was only able to get on and play yesterday evening since it was implemented.
They keep having problems with login servers, with auction house, with everything. It really is quite poor that there's still a huge bottleneck on login a couple of weeks after launch.

The amount of downtime this week has been pretty appalling really, last week it was pretty much stable so i thought all server problems had been sorted. Now i can understand that may have been issues this week with new patch etc but what is really poor is that nobody from Blizzard will comment on the official forums apart from some generic message saying sever is down and they are looking into it that is what frustrates everyone, no mention of roughly how long its going to offline or what the problem is and what makes things worse is that it appears only the EU servers which are having problems, the US and Asia seem to be more reliable
People are going loopy on there official forums saying i want my money back or i want compensation, the problem i personally think is because there is no subscription model like WoW, where if it was really bad service you could just cancel your sub which will hurt them financially. With this model they already have your money and don't really have any kind of incentive to get problems sorted quickly or to perhaps increase server capacity.
If anything good does hopefully come of this is that any company who insist on having permanent internet access really take a good hard look at this and think again, yes looking at your EA with Sim City. If this really is the future of gaming then god help our hobby until they can make it reliable.

But even ignoring the server downtime issues, the performance of the servers has also been dreadful. I'm on a good 20meg connection and after 15 or so hours the only time I've died in the game is when it lags - in single player! The implementation of the server-side stuff is horrible at the moment, I know it combats hackery but this is harming all the legit players.
I am enjoying it when it works though. Are you guys skipping Normal and going straight in on Nightmare then? I seem to be way behind everyone

I got the mobile authenticator yesterday. It asks for a code when you login that only your mobile can provide. This would prevent you losing your password online to some unscrupulous person, but if sessions are still being hacked there is no hope.
A major patch was released last night about 9pm, so hopefully it's better today.

It's not. It's just the same as ever. Apparently it takes 8hrs to pull the server off, update a tool tip, then switch them back on.
As Pete said, the general connection has been ballsaxx. I don't care so much about dieing during this pissing around phase, however things need to be sorted by the time we get more serious. I'm glad I'm not playing WoW with this connection, or anything else really.

Are we all using the same database for items? Like is there one auction house and one item master database for all 10(?) million users. I think WoW is different no?

If a game NEEDS always on access because it is a multiplayer game, and needs to access a devs servers because those servers HAVE to persist you across multiple other servers then fine. This game does not need that for any of these reasons. I hope gamers respond appropriately the next time a publisher pulls this **** by boycotting the game.
Crap like this is ruining my hobby.

Yeah, I'm amazed at how tolerant people are of this. The game launched two weeks ago, and is still borderline broken. If thas was an Activision game (which it sort of, kinda is) people would set fire to buildings and eat living kittens in protest. Yet somehow Blizzard is one of the few (along with Valve) "cool" game companies out there, so they get a pass for pulling sh!t very few others could.

If they can iron out these issues which certainly shouldn't be happening, then the system should be great. They aren't half making a huge mess of things though. People are getting rightly annoyed. I just want servers that aren't so jam packed.
I'm all for being constantly online, even having to connect across the Pacific, if it means the game won't be ruined by dupes, hacks, bots, etc. Dealing with those things ruined FFXI/PSO. Hopefully they can provide some decent content for free once the RMAH goes live.
Just had a cracking sesh with Dara tonight, ran through Hell up to the Skeleton King. Loot as poor as ever. Those champs/elites are becoming bastards now
