I'm upto about chapter 9 by now, I'm actually enjoying it loads more than I did at the start, the cutscenes have really dried up now, so it's almost all game.

It's a really good looking game, pretty amazing to think of what hardware this is actually running on.
Environments are really varied too, the return to NYC for the flashbacks is a nice bit of nostalgia, but I'm glad they didn't set the whole game there, as the first game was pretty repetitious in that respect.

The second half of the game is certainly better than the first half.

Funny that some people seem to love this where others seem to hate it. Having finished it now I'm basically somewhere in the middle, it has a lot of flaws and it's moments of frustration but it's mostly enjoyable despite it's many issues.

I ended up giving it 7/10.

This game is just brilliant in my view , really don't know why people are bringing up Uncharted III has this game looked or plays nothing like it and the aiming system and firefights are a millions times better in this for starters , Loved the Stadium fight and the music in that stage was incredible and this game just keeps on getting better and better .

Difficulty wise, sure, the game gets harder and you encounter more resilient enemies as you progress, but isn't that how it should be? Maybe I'm "strange", but I certainly think so. If in trouble, go into slow-mo (dive or normal) and take down enemies with headshots. Simple really.
Yes I think you're meant to die a few times in games, otherwise people will be saying the game is too easy , there's just no pleasing some

Just read that the stupid scope aiming for sniper rifles being on the left stick is a bug for players using inverted aim.
          That was annoying as hell.

I don't understand inverted aim. Surely up is up and down is down? If I want to look up in life I don't think about down, I just look up.

Maybe it deserves its own thread of people who can think properly vs the inverts!

Just banter people, would be an interesting discussion as to what makes someone need invert and not though.

The music is class throughout this. Really ups the tempo when required.

I've gone back through the first four chapters on easy grabbing the clues/golden guns for a quick session last night. On that difficulty the game is fantastic. You can almost shoot dodge the whole way through and less around with the approach. Just great fun, pure and simple.

I'm surprised people are actually hating on this so much. I'm not sure what they were expecting. To me it's very much the Max Payne template brought up to date with some rockstar gloss. It was never going to be anything more than a slow mo shooting gallery. Comparing it to uncharted seems ridiculous to me. The set pieces here aren't as big or pronounced but I feel that is the whole point. It has slow mo shooting but most of it is semi-based in reality aside from enemies who take a number of bullets to drop.

Anyway, to each their own. It makes for an interesting read. I'm giving this 9/10. I'm loving it the further I get.

Speaking as an invert gamer, my tendency to invert probably comes from being weaned on Atari's Star Wars arcade game and 3D Starstrike on the Speccy as a nipper. Tilt control forwards = effect of a head tilting forward, eg. you look down. Do the same thing on a joystick/joypad? You go up.

                It's a bloody minefield, sonny.

Technically inverted controls are more realistic, for example if you want to look upwards you have to pull back on your neck muscles. Although I personally don't invert I can understand why people do.

Finished it now, very enjoyable for me, got a game i was expecting which was GTA4/Red dead gunplay with diving, definitley an old school shooter with how unforgiving it can be even on normal(with semi-autoaim), but once you get down dodging into cover while head shoting or for me hitting slow moe when lying onthe floor was a valuable tool for me. Found i'd get killed often or waste lot of pills popping up from cover without going into slow mode.

Only disappointments for me was the lack of options for leaving cover and often felt i couldn't trust the game to do the same thing twice, it was really lacking a auto dodge fowards from wall/door frame cover with out having to manually exit cover, which is strange as they half arsed the waist level cover so max would jolt back off the cover and jump towards and over it when using the dodge button. Only other gripes was the laser aim guns in the last 2 chapters making it bloodying hard to know where your shoot and the armour guards... that first one was complete bastard, i was getting no feed back on pumping clip after clip into him that i thought for sure i had to trigger a cut scene (like melee kill), until after 20 mins of trying i just full slowmode 2/3 clips into his head while eating some of his bullets.

I assume im near the end now, the laser sight guns suck I switched to anything without instead of using them!

                      Just finished the

                      Police Station

level and it was the best yet.

I think it's because the first FPS games I ever played were flight combat games, which of course were inverted.
Usually 3rd person games need to be normal, but for some reason max payne is inverted.

I invert pretty much all games, I seem to remember some early console FPS's had it as standard plus anything featuring flight so it just was what I was used to. Character control for me is kept u-up, down-down but anything camera pitching makes more sense inverted for me.

me too - invert all the way for pretty much the same reasons - early flight games/pilot controls

However I can play with 'up' being 'up'.

Enjoying the game and now starting to enjoy multplayer, since leveling up abit

I see where you guys are coming from. There was 2 seconds of conflict in my mind when I looked up but felt a downward motion in my muscles as rmoxon said.

I used to play flight of the intruder on Amiga as invert and can't recall when I made the switch to non invert. Halo on Xbox I reckon.

Anyway, Max Payne 3.....I haven't played it.

                                Normal Controls as default?
                                Poor Design Decision.

                                Change the settings you say?
