PES 2013 (Pro Evolution Soccer 2013) PS3 review

I will start off by saying this is possibly the best PES/Winning Eleven ever created in my opinion. Maybe even better than PES 6/Winning Eleven 10 although still lacks snow and some edit features which were present in those.

Pace of game feels between Demo 1 and 2, but more like demo 1 which is brilliant a more considered pace is always welcome by myself. Referees on the whole are great. Shooting is toned down a bit for the better in my opinion. You can still hit some screamers though. Love to use manual passing, not used the manual shot modifier yet as the shooting is so stable this year. Love the way it let's you hit the ball after being offside

The passing is a real pleasure in PES 2013 and like other PES games feels really satisfying to hit cross field passes. Passing bar two feels good for me tried full manual on demo 2 but could not warm to it, same with one bar.

A.I moves a lot more and as I requested in feedback to Kinami the forward seem to as well. Covering of positions by A.I is nice and really impressed me, I saw Mikel drop into centre back for JT. One draw back/slight niggle is still having to use Super cancel with through balls to my strikers to stop their automated runs, would be nice if Super cancel was an option to use if needed in PES 2014 but would hope it will not be needed at all in future versions.

It has been said already but the defensive system this year is brilliant, so many options and the welcome addition of the double tap tackle button helps in sticky situations. With more physical aspects the game engine struggles a bit, but does its best when jostling for the ball physically, which feels good but needs to be improved in future iterations.

Keepers palm away a lot better. The keepers generally for me show great Player ID and individuality and make some great saves plus being much harder to beat. Deft touch is a great feature and adds many more options and ways to play or take in a player in the one vs ine player battles PES does so well with neat flocks and touches. these can sometimes be a tricky to pull off. If you can pull off a deft touch using the new system it looks and feels brilliant. Speaking if trick from the training mode I tried these and some are very, very hard to pass and perhaps Konami should have made these a bit easier to pass.

Heading is an odd ball. As defensive heading is great and positioning is
Strange but attacking heading seems sort if non existent, I have put in plenty of crosses but not really connect properly with any thiss was not the case in the demos for me. So maybe Konami need to tweak this or patch it.

Master league feels great and transfers are handled better, gaining percentage chances of signing players. Boots and other boost items like Bananas grate a little, but do not affect to much thoug. Although as has been said before an on/off button for boost items before you start ML would have been welcome again patch needed. As well as a league mode which I am hoping Konami add.

I played my first match at La Rosela stadium (Malaga) felt very tight. I won 2-1 Chelsea against Liverpool with a great goal from Hazard. Brilliant touches scored some amazing goals already. Even my wife commented on Torres running style and how accurate it was, Played ID at its best. More on ID I love the way players like Lampard are really useful and passing ability is clear to see. When used correctly such great individuality that the rival game can only dream of. Many players use Played ID and some is truly wonderful.

Master League Online can be addictive but annoying how certain players cannot be bought due to top value being reached, just because other people got there first there were so many of these. I enjoyed Ranked modes a lot and Konami is promising a patch in October to give more match making options. Online is very stable in 2013 less/no lag unlike previous versions.

Atmosphere needs much improvement same hoooo hoo song all the way through. This is mainly in exhibition or online matches.

Impressed with Champions League mode and the new graphics for the logos and ad boards. Atmosphere for this mode is much better same with Coppa Libertadores. A.I does not seem to cheat in competitions like in PES 2012 so this is a relief. Team variations of playing great Galatasary sat back a bit when I played against then in the Champions league and seemed very authentic.

Auto save a bit annoying and does not appear able to turn off this off which is weird. Edit mode is the same as last year it seems although some extra league slots have been added. Colors for boots seems all over the show but in sure they'll add some like Oscars black and yellow Predators I hope instead of the pink that only Beckham is wearing at the mo I gather in real life.

Finally if Konami can recreate this for PES 2014 Fox engine with some bells and whistles then we are in for something special.

It's probably just becuase I play FIFA a lot, but this feels unexciting and actually quite dull in comparison.

Its quite slow paced yet not particularly realistic, it's typical Pro Evo, even when playing the CPU on higher difficulties all you have to do is run in a Stright line towards the oppositions goal while pressing pass ocasionally and once you get 30 yards out blast it, and 9 times out of ten you score a goal. I've played football games on the zx spectrum that were deeper than this.

The ony thing Pro Evo gets right over FiFa is how you have to use the sprint button sparingly and use your players burst of pace to beat people. But even that is easy to master and once you have it becomes a case of going through the motions.

    Its just dull.

Also the teams are no where near up to date for the new season. Or well they aren't on the pc version anyway, so I presume its the same for consoles?

They will be releasing an update in the coming weeks with all the transfers complete and up to date. To echo most other peoples' opinions of this, it is fantastic and easily the best Pro Evo/WE since Winning Eleven 10 J League. Shooting has a real connection to it, the goalkeepers are much better than previous 'next gen' iterations, most tricks are realistically usable in game situations and the whole thing is just a really solid package

Comfortably better than the latest Fifa which just feels like football on auto-pilot by comparison (going by the demo). Scoring a great goal in this on the higher difficulties leads to a sense of satisfaction not found in the floaty, football-on-ice shiny emptiness of the last couple of Fifas.
Disappointed about the lack of league competitions, but that aside it's nice to have the old Pro Evo back

I havent picked this up yet but had a go of Demo 2 yesterday and came away suitably impressed.

Has anyone imported Daymos 2013 option file for this? I noticed that the install process for Xbox 360 is now simpler than ever even on PES 2012. You just format an empty USB stick to 512mb in the Xbox dashboard, stick it in your PC and copy across two files... put them on the Xbox 360 HDD and its done.

Only thing I note on PES 2012 is you really then have to install the game to the HDD as well as all that edited data slows down some options in the menus. It's worth it though as the kit, emblems and other graphical niceties are so much crisper now. You'd literally believe they had all the licensing in place, it's that good.

I understand the transfers and other data will be coming in an update for 2013 but just wondered if the option file support was even better now?

WENB will be starting an Editing only website this week I think. They said it will come with their big website redesign, so yes the edit support will be better than 2012, with around 6 people working on files I believe. The base will be added to and I'm sure they will do all the transfer in a patch very, very soon. Before Konami release the Transfer patch even possibly. I did a lot of transfers myself and always spot the odd one I miss took about an 40 mins- 1 hr though.

Cool. Good to know. When I asked if editing support would be better this year though... I meant have Konami done anything to make these guys have even more free reign? I.e. more slots etc...

Even so I'm picking this up. I went through the training in demo 2 last night and the trapping, flicks, knuckle shot etc... Are all great inclusions and actually fit naturally in the control scheme. I can see why reviews are stating this as the best PES yet.

Sorry misunderstood, the Editing slots have not been increased for badges I don't believe, and hair etc is the same as last year I think.
There are two editable leagues though tonadd German league or something. And some extra celebrations have been added.

My 360 copy of this arrived today and even though I didn't pick up the last few PES games it feels good to be back. Looking forward to getting into the game again. I have often felt that I never invested enough time in previous games and although I loved playing them felt I only scratched the surface.

After using WENB's new OF, the Master League has come to life. I played Notts Forest in my first match as the new look Liverpool FC.

I beat them 2-0 at home, thinking it would be a doddle in this league (D2), I went to the Reebok resting players, only to come away with my tail between my legs in a 3-0 drubbing.

I see the names are correct for these Championship teams, but I'm questioning the player likenesses in this OF, as N'Gog was clearly white

                  Good times.

Here you go, mate - http://www.onlyproevolutions.com/201...os-ope-v1.html

V2 should be coming soon though, featuring the same excellent additions as WENB's second option file.

VERY IMPORTANTdo not download version 2 yet (V2) as the creators can gather it is making PES 2013 crash. They say this could be because the data was created in PES 2012 and for some ridiculous reason PES 2013 is trying to access PES 2012 data, and it puts the game in an endless loop of loading. PS3 would need a hard reset. Version (V1( Base file is fine stick with that til now or until the file creators create data using PES 2013 or Konami patch it.

                              See here for full explanation

This patch is amazing such a shame about the crashing problem at the moment.
