Pretty much. You also get the silver and gold slingshots if you shoot enough balloons.
Once I've got this set, I'm not going to bother with them anymore.

A completely noob question, but with certain items e.g blue Falcon, Red shell etc. when I view them they are simply a leaf - do I need to obtain anything to view the actual item? I've only just started out by have been given bits from other towns so wondering if I'm not far in enough yet to see/use them properly?

Put them in your house.
The leaf signifies its a piece of furniture.
