Looking forward to spending some quality time with Zombi-U later tonight, busy weekend has led to limited free time. From my brief play with the new console I have to say how I impressed I am with the game pad, the screen quality was much better than I expected. If nothing else the game pad will provide opportunities for unique gaming experiences that wouldn't be possible elsewhere, which for me brings more excitement than just seeing the same old games with shinier graphics. I am sure that Nintendo and the more talented 3rd party developers won't disappoint

The screen/colours seems so much brighter on the gamepad than my tv.
Is this the same for everyone?

Guess that will depend on the TV, but yeah it will do as the screen is smaller so therefore the brightness is better contained than on a TV.

cheers bb, its pretty noticeable on mine.
The gamepad looks mint, the tv pretty dulled in comparison

I don't think so, you can only post within communities.

But PS3 has never handled Direct X of any sort, and never will. Nothing except XBox and Windows can. Unless I'm very confused! So there's no need to worry.

Reading the thread this morning it's all sounding a bit more positive. It's still hard to imaine someone reading this topic though and thinking yeah, I'll pay ?300 for this. Sounds like it's getting there.

I do wish Sony had a simple way of getting most PS3 games to be remote play enabled. It really is a great feature and one that the Wii U has managed to copy* really well by the sound of it.

                  WiiU Chat

Gave this a go earlier with my family back in the UK and am impressed. They are on wifi and I was using a hardline, no connection issues at all despite my brother sitting there and playing online with his PC the whole time.

Shame you can't capture images during chat as I drew on myself to look like Mr T, even asking my mother to leave my bins alone.

Mum is going to work tomorrow to tell her boss she spent the evening drawing on my face...

And yes, you can do pad-only, and have the ability to switch your own image from windowed to fullscreen and back. You both draw on the same canvas but can only erase your own scribblings.

Had a quick go on one in HMV yesterday. Quite good, although I don't have the money for it at the moment. I do have a 12 month interest free card (so it's tempting to split the cost up), but I'm trying to think rationally. It'll only be me playing, so multiplayer games won't draw me as much and the only games I'm even looking at are Zombie U and Super Mario, then the next game I'll want is probably Pikmin.

I'm trying to convince myself here to NOT buy one at the moment! Undoubtedly, there'll be bigger hard drive versions and newer bundles come next year when the next first party games are released. Anyone think holding off would be a good idea?

I don't understand how you come to this conclusion. Outside of Shozuki (whom we all know is insane) everybody who owns a unit sounds quite excited. For me this is the most exciting console launch since the 360. Most of the negativity in this thread seems to be coming from you.

I wouldn't say its the most exciting console launch since the 360, considering there has only been two others since then ...

However I would say that the WiiU has put the 'fun' back into gaming for me so far. Yes there is going to the inevitable games drought mid 2013 to 2014, but I am expecting that, so it won't be shock when it comes.

I think if Nintendo can get a good number of quirky games out on a regular basis (once a quarter for example) such as Rayman and Game & Wario then I think they will be set. Nobody really knows at the moment ...

Depends on your definition of console launches. For me there have been plenty: Wii, PS3, PSPGo, DSi, 3DS, PSVita.

To be fair most people who pay hundreds of pounds for something are usually not to happy to turn round less than a week later and say "no it's ****, why did I buy this junk?" Not that I'm saying it is, I have not played one yet, it might be good. I do have a question do you have to have a wiimote and use the sensor bar (ie set it up) or if you have no intention of playing original wii games and would only use it for the new u games can you just ignore it. Personally I think if the price point was ?100 less it would be an awful lot more positive everywhere, the only company that can get away with overpricing their tech is Apple everyone knows that

Maybe Sho' thinks that because not counting Kryss (who may as well work for Nintendo) has had his system the longest so has played the most on it, maybe he is hard to please who knows but he bought one, played one one and is entitled to think what he wants about it

Many people, yes. But I hold the average member of this forum above those. When the Vita came out many fresh owners criticised despite having just spent about the same on it (and a memory card) as the Wii U costs. This has been the case several times on this place, people are generally sure of their opinions.
