Guess I am in the minority then. As a big fan of the Mario rpg games this is majorly lacking.

My main gripe comes with the removal of the rpg elements. Deciding if a character needs attack power or life and distributing the skill points was a big part of the previous games, having the power in the stickers is a bad idea imo, as it encourages running from every battle, as you stand to lose more than you gain. Completing a battle gets you nothing more than a few coins that are not needed, as they are easy to obtain in other ways.

The puzzles are extremely simple and so far have offered little variety. I am also disappointed at the lack of humour.

Overall this is very average by series standards.

I was talking to a friend about this, the battles actually get in the way of the exploration and as you say there is no downside to actually just running away as there is no leveling up or any real incentive to fight.

An rpg which disadvantages the player to fight shows a lack of thought imo. I just dont have a sense that I am achieving anything by playing through the levels.

Guess ill move onto harvest moon and sideline mario for a while.

Even more gutted castlevania and Luigi did not make it for xmas as its been a very poor one for 3ds

I agree with the mole, although I'm enjoying itbut the lack of RPG elements is hurting it for me and finding them annoying and piontless but I'm in there for the ride

They tried to do something different, which in a genre full of clones and unoriginal ideas, I applaud. However changing the core gameplay mechanic so drastically and refocusing the game for a much younger audience is not the direction I would have gone in. The thing I always got from the paper mario and mario and luigi games was a sense of progression and doing things brought rewards. With this I have played 8 levels now and just dont feel motivated to want to play any more.

I just gave up on this, really unimpressed. It is really hard to find anything to like. Frustrating design choices, average graphics by 3DS standards, a battle system that is focused on running away, uninspired puzzles, very very poor effort. Lucky its not too long to Fire Emblem, Luigis Mansion, and Castlevania.

Ive not played it much but my son has finished it, it only took him 2 days, which is not good, and even at 11 years old he reckons its not a patch on the Gamecube and N64 Versions which i have, its such a shame as i love the series this seem like a lowpoint in it.
