Its not 7/10, but its certainly not atrocious....

Its perfectly playable, just completely dull overall, and with some unforgivable flaws.

5/10 from me, but the press have gone to town on it(just like they did with silent hill hd), and if they didnt we would soon have a new standard for games releases.

So i can see why we have loads of 3's and 4's in the press.

I finished it on ultimate badass, and about 2 hours before the end i was thinking "come on game hurry up now"...that kind of encapsulates my feeling for this game, in that it was enough of a game that i wanted to finish it, but poor enough that i started to resent the time i was having to put into it.

What i cannot fathom is that for all the bad alien games we've ever had, why on gods earth have we not stumbled across a dev who can really do this fantastic universe justice, or at least put the expected amount of effort into doing so? It makes no sense to me...you'd expect videogame fans and aliens franchise fans to be a similar kind of breed.....i must be very naive in thinking this way.

I have seen some excellent lighting in the game too and whilst not halo 4, the graphics are fine

The audio is stunning; comparing it to the ps1 version is silly; what brand of lossless encoding amp and speakers are you using?

At its worst its highly playable? If you consider walking down the same corridor or through the same room 25 times while enemies run about like headless chickens, while not even bothering to attack you half the time, highly playable then I'm glad for you. You're obviously easily pleased and love everything in the world ever, which probably makes life a constant joy for you.

However for me, the game (which patched so Im presuming I have not been sold the beta version) was a struggle to complete and I'm just glad it was so short and virtually impossible to die in it because I can get rid of it now and never have to play it again.

The AI doesnt do that in the ps3 version; they come straight for you (played on hardened).

You didnt answer my question about what amp and speakers you are using?

I have the PC version and I'm not using an amp. That's not why the game sounds bad though, it's not the quality of the audio that's poor as much as its implementation. As I said the game just has no atmosphere. They just shoe horned in loads of people mentioning characters from the film and thought that would make everyone forget the fact that no effort had been put into making the game.

Again I will point to the PC only Aliens vs Predator games, they were both fantastic. They had a brilliant build up of tension. The opening of the marine campaign in the second game is absolutely terrifying, and when the aliens do attack you, you feel like you're fighting for your life, not playing a video game where you don't care what happens like in Colonial marines.

No I'm not, Im in a position to comment on the poor use of audio though, and the games full of it. There's music when there shouldn't be and no music when there should be. The awesome music from the film is used at the wrong times. The sound effects are iconic, but they aren't impressive because like I said they are the same ones that have been used in Aliens games for the last 20 years.

Is anybody going to this tonight?

Robert Florence invites a panel of gaming experts including journalist Kieron Gillen and Tom Bramwell, Editor of Eurogamer, to review the brand new video game Aliens: Colonial Marines live in front of an audience, before a screening of James Cameron?s Aliens in glorious 70mm. Expect fury, fire, fights and then a film!

FFS! I came in here to post my views on this game I haven't played and I see dvdx2 and rmoxon have differing opinions. Now what am I supposed to think? I'm gonna have to play this myself aren't I? Thanks guys!

QC - if I was near Glasgow I'd go to that for sure. Can't wait for the reports tomorrow morning.

C'Mon give rmoxon a break . He's allowed his own views on games and is hardly one that talks about and scores a game that he doesn't own or at least have played

Its not atrocious though, thats the point - go play legendary, turning point or blacksite if you want to see an atrocious fps

I played this through on my own over the weekend. Its far to short for my liking feels over very quick. I did think it was ok though and on the harder levels with 3 other people it could be a laugh, just not sure how much life is in it.

As its been said before though some of it doesnt look nice at all. But I did like the pulse rifle sound

No you're making out he hasn't played it , which is different and people have their own views about games .To some this will be utter crap and to others they may like it . I would put to you that rmoxon has indeed played the final game

Capcom's AvP (1994) is the best.

As for a pure 'Aliens' game, yeah. You'd think it'd be easy to pull a decent one off.

Still playing through this as am sucker for anything Aliens.

Anyway, I check out the PSone Game Alien Resurrection as I remember it having awful controls but it was scary as hell and I was the reading the Gamespot Review from October 2000 and in summary read this "Fans of console first-person shooters or the Alien film series will probably be better off waiting for Fox's recently announced Aliens: Colonial Marines for the PlayStation 2."

That was from 2000, no wonder this game is below standard, seems it has been kicking around a LONG time in development...
