I'm finding this a bit of a slog too. I think the fact I'm not searching out puzzle tombs makes the game a lot more samey. I would've liked a few more puzzles in the main game thread. The combat is tight and enjoyable, but I'm not interested in the story and it's feeling like a less immersive Uncharted.

The puzzle tombs are a token and nothing more, so you ain't missing out, trust me. Even the trickiest tombs take only a couple of minutes to complete.

The sad and stupid bit is, SE & CD are releasing throw away multiplayer DLC which i dont want or need, it's an uncharted MP clone, now if it was SP tombs i'd be all over it, wasted opportunity.

Yeah I wish there would be some future DLC for Lara's adventures between this game and the next main instalment. We're used to her being a strong survivor now, its time to move her journey forward to some new environments with different challenges and enemies.

I'm fine with it emulating the Uncharted template as long as the gameplay's great and the experience is exciting. Hopefully Square Enix don't nip this success (in everyone else's eyes) in the bud after one game.

Was it, is it a success? They were saying exactly the same thing about Legend back in two thousand and whatever. They followed it up with the intermittently good, particularly where they followed the original TR template, Anniversary. But when they continued with the real sequel Underworld almost nobody cared. The casuals had moved on and a huge number of the fans of the original Core games had never been convinced. It almost marked the end of the franchise.

My feeling is that the same thing will happen again, the sequel to this latest 'darker' re-imagining will fall flat like Underworld serving up more of the same and nothing much new except for prettier next-gen graphic.

Now if they were to rework my favourite old TR the brilliant TR3 particularly if it properly incorporated All Hallows and the PC only Lost Artifact levels (with Nessie) I'd probably sell a kidney so get a PS4 to play that. I know there are many other old school TR fans who would too.

Just think of the levels in India, Nevada, South Seas, London, Antarctica, Shakespeare's Cliff, Scotland remade with modern graphics - a dream come true.

Y'know that wouldn't be a bad idea. I think players like a globe-trotting Lara, it being something that adds to the excitement of all the tomb raiding.

Valid point with the prior entries. Really enjoyed Legend with its secret agent and small backup team vibe it had going through the game. Anniversary was a good revision of TR1 and Underworld was alright but I wish it wasn't a follow on game from Legend and just a title in its own right.

2015 will tell if we get another modern Tomb Raider game (that tends to be the turnaround timescale for these type of games currently more or less). Even if Square Enix didn't make the profits they had originally projected from the Tomb Raider reboot, I hope they have confidence enough in Crystal Dynamics to allow them to continue working on Lara's new world.

I completed this last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it! (Once last shout-out to my Secret Santa!)

I've not played Uncharted, so I didn't have that comparison to make, which sounds like a blessing as reading through this thread, people came to it with a lot of baggage!

It was a very cinematic adventure and the early bits especially, were probably quite entertaining for bystanders to enjoy too.

I agree that I hope the sequels are more about the raiding of tombs, but for this game, it made sense that there wasn't too much of it. Lara's friends lives are at risk and they need to get off the island as soon as possible. It felt like even searching for GPS units was a frivolity with such an important quest at hand. After blasting a handful of bloodthirsty cultists, she opens a treasure chest: "Ooh! An 18th Century Tobacco pouch! Possibly used by the gentry at operas" *giggle*"

Aside from that, I really loved the game. The setting, the plot (more engaging that "Lost" most of the time) and the clever way it loaded the levels without you noticing. Some of the set-pieces were really thrilling. I probably spent too much time going for headshots for the extra XP, so by the time I'd fully levelled up, it was a bit of a relief to just blast anybody in my way!

Great game. Roll on the sequel (with added tombs...)!

It's still not TR no matter how good they made of it. But I admit I've been tempted to buy it anyway, particularly at this low price.

The thing is if they're going to rewrite almost everything and have gameplay that bears only cursory resemblance to the originals why not invent a new female character and start a whole new franchise instead of pretending it is even a spiritual continuation of the original TR concept?

I really loved playing this last year and whilst it doesnt carry over alot of the mechanics most fans of the series enjoy I did think that as a new origins story it was pretty feature complete.

There was obviously more emphasis on gun-play and less focus on puzzles but all things considered its an excellent game in its own right. My main criticism playing through it was that most of the puzzles were only contained to one room and werent all that complex. Though in saying that, with the Metroid style of unlocking gadgets/tools you could argue that the entire island was a puzzle all of its own.

I wouldnt mind playing through this again on next-gen with shiny graphics but the price they're asking for is really putting me off. Its $70au here when it should really be $40... especially considering the single player isnt that long and all the DLC they brought out (apart from one puzzle) was multiplayer focused, and most people passed on that in the first release.

I'm most likely going to wait it out a couple of months and see how much this drops in price. Given there isnt a tonne of releases for Xbox One or PS4 this year this is a good game to pick up for a replay, but if you've already played it before I dont really see the incentive at the current RRP.

I've not played it so really looking forward to it. It can be picked up on PS4 for ?34 already, and is probably a game that won't hold it's value too well for long.
