    Battlefield 4 Xbox 360 review

How can a game made two years after its predecessor using a new engine, look, play and sound worse than the old product?!

BF4 feels clunky, looks horrible and plays badly, thanks in part to the poor, pointless controller layout changes. The surround sound isn't as good as BF's either.

    I'm really disappointed.

It's to make you buy teh Xbox1 innit. Didn't you play the demo? Or did you just refuse to believe it could be that poor?

The controller changes are a worry for the next gen too though....

It looks a bit better than the beta, but the animations aren't smooth.

Good to see the game freeze issue is still there from BF3, only took 11 games for it to happen.

As well as the controls feeling clunky, the changes make it challenging going between BF4 and BF3.

Out of interest, I uninstalled the optional multiplayer content and by running this content off the disc instead, it appears to be able to access the HD content much more quickly and the game now looks more like I expected it to.

BF3 had the same issue when both things were installed on the hard drive (it couldn't access both content at the same time) and this lead to EA / DICE not recommending installing the multiplayer content.

A friend who kits his PC just for BF games is loving it currently.

I'm glad I decided not to go for this gen at all as all reports echo the same news, its so heavily reduced its like a different game.

BF3 was already limited enough so not surprised them cramming more in has even more of it slipping over the edges.

Played about four hours tonight on PC. First of all, it looks utterly incredible - Paracel Storm is a sight to behold.

Most of the maps are great apart from one, which is of similar quality to Operation Metro in BF3 (it's called Operation Locker). It's just a big choke point and spam. All of our worst games tonight were on that map, regardless of the mode. We tried Conquest and Rush, and unfortunately Rush still doesn't work as well as it did in Bad Company2 but Conquest is still class.

It's quite frustrating to play at the moment, and not just because of the crash bugs (which seem to be mostly server side - we were all dropping at the same time). Some people are already amazingly good at it, in four hours I hit level 4 and yet there are people already out there in the high 20s. Due to the unlock system they've got a load of great toys, the best guns with the best scopes, and new players are left with no toys and no scopes. Only way to unlock scopes is to kill with that gun, but its hard when the gun has no extras on it.

Still the same old quality Battlefield though, not many games are as fun to play as this in 64 players. Also seen some 68 player servers but haven't tried them yet.

I picked up bf4 on the 360 to play with friends, even hough I have a pc which can run bf on high end settings and was pleasantly surprised.
Played for a few hours last night, and really enjoyed it, I know it isn't true full experience but it is fun. Like many folks I really didn't like the control change but a quick flirt throught the settings and setting everything to veteran more of less shifts it back to bf3 controls (spotting not included). Which I can live with. I also found that the new perk ranking really encourages the squad to work together, even when its made up of un-chatty randomers, to stay alive of your the last man standing.
In terms of map size I didn't find it to bad, yes they are very large but I found that I gave me more chance to sneak and flank conquest points and mcom points.
On a side note I know some people have commented that I feels slow and sluggish but I did notice and network compensator setting in the options. I didn't mess with it (yet) but it might help if people adjusted it.

Over all I like it, and I will most likely end up getting it for the pc too when friends move to x1. So if anyone fancies and game, give me a nudge.

Good impressions Pete. Does BF4 have any close quarter maps/mode similar to BF3?

Not really like the CQB DLC they did however there is one, Operation Locker, which is set in a large prison complex and is full of tight corridors and choke points. It has some neat ideas - if you get outside occasionally there is a blizzard so you can't see anything, and inside you can activate the doors and lock people in certain areas. I find it way too mental though, it's hard to see what's going on.

Some of the maps don't seem to have any gimmicks to them, which surprised me. I thought every map was going to have a game changing moment but this isn't the case, they've actually restrained themselves quite well.

I forgot to mention the sound - it's even better than BF3.

There is a bit in this vid at 1.33 which made me chuckle. Possible COD bashing?
