    How much is this mother?

Right now, 15 quid in the PSN Japan sale. Only problem is that it's cross-save, but not cross-buy, so if you want it on PS3/Vita you'll have to buy both.

I can't believe S-E did that. If they'd done a double-pack, even for an extra fiver, people would've went for it. As it stands, I imagine only a tiny % of the userbase will buy both.

Hmmm... not sure in the Queen's money. It's €18.99 here in Euroland.

Edit: Asura got there first. And yes, it's a shame it's not cross-buy. Would have been a big plus for me.

I don't think I've even seen FFX described as visually dull looking. Even compared to the DC!

Funnily enough, my memory matches that. I seem to recall that the game was vibrant, but the colour output of the PS2 always felt a little muted when playing it. PAL version perhaps? Though I can't see why.

Yeah, my memory of it is that it looked muddy. Same with other earlier PS2 games but not in my memory of later games so either I got used to it or devs started really pumping up the colour eventually. The colours on the DC output were always so bright and saturated by comparison.

I'm supposed to have my ass kicked in the first Blitzball game, right? I can't remember how to win these and my players are rubbish.

You can win it, but you barely get anything for it.

Blitzball isn't really explained well, and your first game is the championship match so it's not handled well. IIRC you get an elixir or something and a short cutscene showing the team lifting the cup.

Blitzball is basically rubbish, I ranted about it at great lengths earlier in the thread.

You don't have to win the first game, and the first game is actually particularly tough. Better to go back to it later - I believe you unlock Wakka's limit break by completing the tournament (and there's also some Blitzball-related trophies).

There's actually a massive bug in Blitzball where you can hide behind your own goalkeeper and opposing players will just spin around in a circle confused, so just try nabbing a goal then hiding behind your goalkeeper. It might be cheating in a way, but Blitzball is rubbish anyway.

I really can't decide whether to get this on PS3 or Vita. What the sense of exploration/freedom like in this?

With FFX, to be honest it starts off pretty linear. There's no world map to explore like in previous games, so you essentially progress from one area to the next following the story. However, you do eventually obtain an airship, allowing you to access all locations in the game at will and complete side quests.

FFX-2 is a lot more open in that you can choose to complete any area of the game whenever you want.

The initial Luca story tournament doesn't have to be won. You will however need to play blitzball (a lot) if you want Wakka's legendary weapon and limit breaks. I spent probably around 10-15 hours on Blitzball alone doing just that. It's not difficult providing you get a new team ASAP as the Aurochs really are utter ****. You'll be outclassed really soon and stats wise, everyone will trounce you.

Just keep playing and levelling and you'll get there. Don't forget to ask brother to join your team as soon as you can- and crucially before the other teams nab him. Him and Tidus upfront are unstoppable. That is... Providing you learn the Jecht Shot for him on the boat heading to Luca... Hopefully you didn't that or your early blitzball games are going to be doubly tough.

This is why it's a shame that the game wasn't cross-buy. It'd be ideal to play the main game at home, with games of Blitzball or grinding on-the-go.

I don't think I did. Didn't get this at all really. It spent a long time showing me what to press when certain commands pop up at edges of the screen and I did that and then the scene played and there were no commands. So not sure how that was supposed to work.

You have to press x and the direction of the message that popped up each time one appeared- you can get away with spinning the stick and mashing x when it gets more difficult. There was a trophy attached to learning it too.

This is why, for me, FFX just isn't as brilliant as some make it out to be. Everything other than the main game is so obscure, grindy and difficult. Everything is still doable in Blitzball without it is wager, but it would be much harder at first until your team is built- Jecht **** it pretty much a guaranteed goal against all but the very best keeper.
