Been playing this more and more with friends tonight.....
I just can't seem to stop... the car models are amazing.. the tracks are cool and the detail to buildings is fantastic....but its in a lower rez than PGR2... but it still blows it out of the water.....

      Am i wrong ....??

      Namco i you.......

Henning, thanks very much for that, very helpful

Ravon, I quote agree, graphics may not match PGR2 or GT4 but everything else is excellent.

One think I haven't managed to work out is the car settings screens, had found a screenshot of the text in English but can't find it again
last thing I'll ask for honestly

EDIT: Found this screenshot for 2nd page of settings, but need 1st/3rd page explanations please.

Having read some more of this thread (and being severely disappointed by PGR2) I'm missing my Jap copy already

Got a US copy coming but I wanna try and pick up a cheap Logitech Cube FF wheel to go with it now.

One thing to bear in mind at least on the US version - you have to manually save everything!

Other than settings will I miss much with the Jpn version ?.. Is all the chatter etc in english in the game ? and do you know what to do in the events or is it like SC2 edge master mode where its trial and error

                  Cheers

radio chatter and cut scenes are in english with japanese subtitles.
its all pretty obvious what you have to do.

The car models in R:RE completely pwn those of PGR2.

In fact so far I have seen little on PGR2 that is superior to R:RE.

Although I have to admit that over the weekend I have realised I just don't really enjoy racers which involve slowing down to take corners. May sound like a cRaZY thing to say but given a choice I'd take Ridge 5, F Zero GX, or Burnout 2 (ooh one from each format) in an instant: never let off the accelerator, fling it round corners and most importantly FEEL like it's going like a rocket.

                        Comment

Yes that sounds crazy but I know what you mean.

I would categorise R:RE as a very accessible simulator.

For me it has been the other way around lately, for example Burnout 2; I get the feel that I?m getting away with almost anything from cornering to traffic in my way. No skills required except for being a living bullet?

I'm impressed how well you can estimate distance and speed in R:RE when cornering or slipstreaming for example. Like I said earlier this game plays like a dream with the Logitech?s gears. The accelerator and brake meters, at the bottom, also helps improve the overall experience.

One concern though - the rally parts lacks in speed, hope it will improve with training or better cars later.

I've only done the Rally course once (in the 206) and the handling was all over the place, this game recreates the bumps etc much more harshly than the bumps on Colin McRae 4. Not a bad thing but it will certainly take some getting used to.

The brakes on the Bentley are great aren't they, 300+ kph to virtual standstill in just a few yards. Very handy for Monaco circuit, wish I had more time to play at the moment.

Am bit stuck on stage 1 of Racing Life though (sad eh), won race on all 3 difficulty levels but only got a silver badge, been told it's because I used a prototype car, so will try will another class of car tonight and hopefully all will be revealed.

Oh man...Been thraping this a little tonight, I haven't put as much time in as I'd like :\

So far I'm on chapter 7 of Racing Life, and I've been playing around with the Time Attack mode mostly.

Windermir (sp?) Hill is the best track EVAR!!! Like, when I went careering towards the edge, only then to actually fall off and roll down the hill!! I was expecting a crappy invisible barrier to stop me, but oh no!! Was very impressive And that bridge where you can go off the sides, pretty awesome too

Lotus Elise is my favourite car so far, closely followed by the Pug 206. The Elises' handling is so sublime, it always does what you ask it to do and never oversteers, unlike that damn Impreza, which I had high hopes for :\

I just can't see what people are getting out of this game - for me its the poorest Namco 'car' racer i have played in some time and just feels half-assed ...... though saying that it does improve once you turn all the assists off

i think i need to put some more time into this - it might be one of those that needs to 'click' into place

                                camps
