    TxK (ps vita) Review review

So the wait is finally over.

Nigh on twenty years after the stunning Atari Jaguar game Tempest 2000, we finally have it's spiritual successor, TxK.

And oh my, It's superb! Looking fantastic on vita's OLED screen you're instantly transported back to 1994. The graphics and sound both mesmerise and suck you in so that nothing else around you exists while playing. (Especially if you bung on some cans and kill the lights)

Control is smooth as is the framerate. Even when the Vita is pumping out particle effects.

Gameplay is pretty much a tweaked Tempest 2000. Things have been added though such as a smarter A.I. drone that can actually rescue your claw when caught. You also have the ability to shoot the lanes next to you, though you can't move while doing this.

There are also new enemies and online leaderboards.

All in all this is a fantastic addition to the Vita's library and is well worth the very reasonable asking price.

I have only had about an hour on it so far but it is pretty much everything I could have hoped for - a refined version of my favourite ever game. So glad that it seems to be getting the recognition it deserves.

Its a great game and it was even cheaper with Plus. But I've got one problem with it; the gyro controls during the stage transitions.

Can only echo all the positivity. It's everything I could have hoped for in a new Tempest game. Yak seems to know exactly what to tweak and what to leave alone, getting the perfect blend of retro and modern. I was wary of the miniature stick on the Vita for a game requiring such precision yet it somehow controls beautifully. Hope it's the start of a long and fruitful relationship between Minter and Sony (yes, a PS4 Tempest would be a dream, but I'm just being greedy now ).

I am really enjoying and have always loved Tempest. Play with headphones, it is a must to get in the groove with the music

Everything is just win in this game, the graphics, the music, the gameplay, and the little snippets of text, You've Just Won Bully's Special Prize. 10/10

Worth the price of a Vita by itself .. that is all ...

But has it been patched yet?

The trophy for completing the game on pure mode is bugged (confirmed by llamasoft) but they said they are waiting to find all bugs before they submit a fix. The survival mode trophy could be bugged too but no human being will ever earn that trophy.

Don't know ... Not too bothered about trophies tbh ...

As you say some of those will never be completed by any human (over the age of 12 anyway).

Great update to T2K and T3K though, not as bonkers as Space Giraffe but then that was a little OTT for some people.

My only real beef (which is nothing to do with the game) is that Minter really needs to do something other than Tempest and GridRunner clones .. He is better than that (or maybe he's not?)

That is not the only bug. Music cuts out after 30 seconds on some later stages. Restarts in classic mode leave stems from previous games on the screen when you begin.. etc etc. I really wish they would take care of it as I have been itching to get back into it.

I have only just started playing it , but have not noticed those bugs, so maybe they have been squashed.

They haven't. They only affect later stages, maybe stages 70+.

I was just playing it two weeks ago.
