@CapSui- Maybe you will have the same experience with PvP I had?

When the intro to it popped up...I went in at Lv5..basic gun/no heavy weapon...not having settled on fave weapon combo/no sight upgrades and HATED it!
Was invited in last night at lv16 with all that sorted and really enjoyed it. Still not very good at it, but concentrating on captures I had a roughly even K/D and felt like a had a chance to compete properly. Though the strike mode is what I am looking forward to more, which you can play instead of PvP for legendary gear.
    Needs a horde mode too!!

I'm lv18 now and absolutely loving it. I am finding it to be a PSOnline FPS!
We went to the tower after some matches, found a football...had a dance off on top of the post office that about 10 randoms joined and generally farted around
Storywise I just finished Venus and have stayed up til 5am 2 days in a row without noticing the time.

Wasn't going to bother buying it either.

Once you hit lvl 18 you can start accumulating vanguard 'marks' (through the coop/strike playlist) and/or guardian marks (through pvp/crucible playlist). You can then trade in vanguard points with robot in hangar for mighty loot, and/or guardian points with your class 'rep' in that control room. So you can get equivalent high-level stuff without touching pvp at all. Further to complicate things, though, to qualify to buy these you also need to raise your guardian or vanguard rating (not the same thing as 'marks') by completing bounties from robot dude in square. This is where an instruction booklet might've helped.
Thanks VERY much for this! I am terrible at twitch PvP and it is good to read there is a way for Coop players to get the best items too.

No probs, dude. Make sure you load up on vanguard-type bounties from robot in square to start increasing your rank for when the loot eventually becomes available, though. The ones he leaves with the post office for you to collect are very useful as they seem to be pitched to the story level you're due to tackle next.

Sounds like the nightfall strikes lvl26+ are brutal. Very aggressive ai and wiping means back to orbit.

Regarding getting above level 20, is it correct that you add 1 for getting a Light upgrade for each piece of equipment? Three for weapons and 1 each for helmet, gauntlets, boots and armor? This would give you the max of 27 (a number I heard mentioned as the max level earlier in the thread).

This game has many, many issues but I still sort of enjoy it. I like the PvP more than Halo and am also better at it. But even that lacks custom playlists, forge, rankings and a lot more.

Encounter design sucks too, enemies just spawn. Sometimes next to you. And the worst offenders are the lack of comms with randoms. Not even a chatbox. I wish I could tell them they have to focus on the mobs and not the chained up boss. You are at the mercy of being matched with players who know wtf they're doing. Also the legendary ingrams. They can be for any class... and there is no trading. What if I never want to play Warlock? Even then, I re-rolled once and was baffled that I can't skip cutscenes at all. Bungie must be really proud of this narrative and storyline. I think its one of the weakest in recent years though.

Destiny is very, very antisocial in fact (exploration has no join options IIRC, and Events are always me against the world). But I do like it. The gunplay is spot on, and I like PvP. And Strikes despite them actually being full of weak design. I have to agree with Polygon on this game.

I wonder if or how long I will play it past the level 20 mark.

Went and did the last story missions, it's like they desperately wanted to make another Halo, but actually couldn't.

The actual campaign missions are really reminiscent of halo as are the enemies which generally follow the Elite/Grunt formula with the odd jetpack variant or shielded variant. Once you have reached the same level as the enemies you can easily take them down with a single headshot. I actually really think it plays very well even as a straightforward shooter. Unfortunately the story falls flat on it's face as it comprises of 3 or 4 cutscenes spread across the 15 ish missions. The ending was just an incredibly damp squib.

Whilst initially I felt that the game had been built from the ground up as an MMO, it seems increasingly like the game was perhaps being designed as a straight on non-Halo Halo and they took what they had and moulded it around an MMO framework.
Hopefully the resultant product will provide them with a revenue stream and they can have another team of people work on something newer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really really enjoying it perhaps due to it's similarity to Halo in numerous respects but I does feel like the game never quite nails the exact points that it perhaps intended to.

One thing in particular that the game is really lacking in is personality, from the overall lack of dialogue and actual characters to the closed and contained hub area that is lacking in any kind of appearance of it being a living world. I think they need to look at how Mass Effect did such a wonderful job of that

Halo never nailed halo after CE, it was all downhill for bungie after the first.

It does feel like another stab at halo, but I'm enjoying it immensely none the less, i think it's because I just didn't expect anything after so many halo sequals that fell so desperate short.

went of on a patrol of earth jumping up and down into every nook and cranny, down cliff-faces and over many a high fence. Found a ton of dead ghosts, normal chests, all 5 gold chests (which rewarded me with a new speeder), and bout 4 high lvl areas, and 3 blocked passages that will clearly be used for something later (though I am including the start area, which is shut off, which was open in the alpha/beta and had its own dead ghost which they've cunning hidden elsewhere and very hard to spot).

This game reminds me a lot of Dragon Dogma, overall package a bit flawed but it has most of the nuts and bolts right to let you have fun either fighting or platforming.

Agree 100% with the EvilBoris about Mass Effect, i.e. how this aspires but pales compared to the richness and imagination of that universe and its planets, species, tech, characters, etc. Compare the Tower to the Citadel or Omega. Still love the shootering of this game, though.

                          The comeback is REEEEEEEEEAL.

Played quite a few games tonight with Loftgroover and we had an absolutely smashing comeback in the Crucible. Titan defense is absolutely brilliant!
