Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare review

After a very long wait for it to download I finally got to play the game briefly this morning and hopped straight to TDM. I'm on PC this time and the optimisation seems a bit iffy in places. It's in no way a taxing graphics powerhouse of a game but as soon as I started tinkering with settings the game ran iffy. I set it to optimal and its fine, clear as a bell with no issues at all.

I need to get back in the swing of it but so far it seems solid enough. The maps still lean towards multidoor arenas rather than more realistic areas that MW had but the added mobility seems to lessen the frustrations that Ghosts had. Despite the aesthetic similarities, this isn't like Titanfall either. All that's really been added to the formula is a double jump. It speeds your mobility between floors and coupled with the air dash makes you a harder target to hit but this is balanced by having less health points. It's very much still a CoD game. I need to get more used to the maps but it makes a better impression than the weak Ghosts did at the least and there's alot to unlock in the mp for progresssion in the ranks.

I'm enjoying the single player on PS4.

Looks pretty nice but still suffers from those some of those annoying sections where you die over and over for seemingly no reason and then, out of nowhere, you clear the checkpoint.

Couple more matches under my belt and it's beginning to click more. No maps I actively dislike yet though the game remains thoroughly current gen in visuals. The feel of the weapons and the punchy sound is a lot better than previous entries though

Multiplayer is excellent, although i was games where better balanced (playing against level 44 guys isnt much fun at the start)

Gameplay has improved over ghosts, graphics havent (ps4 version) - not very next gen....

Enjoying the multiplayer but a shame to see that quick scoping is still present. Had a match with a whole clan of quick scopers who destroyed my side

teddymeow - sorry for the random message, the match started too soon so had to cut it short!

I can see me spending quite some time on this. If anyone wants to add me on psn pop me a PM.....I'm not very good mind!

Coming from Battlefield 3 & 4 on pc to this on Xbone the graphics are a major downgrade, very bland.

The cut scenes look great though.

I can't play MP as the hotel I'm in has crap Internet, which is good as I am playing the single player game. I have clocked about two hours tonight and really enjoying it, the whole package feels right and the Kevin Spacey cameos are really good also. it is was better than Ghosts and I will complete the single player mainly next week as I don't have much free time at the moment. MP might have to wait, which is annoying as I am away 6 days a week until mid December, after that I will be home every night so will give some serious play then.

The SP player game so far has me hooked and like the whole feel of it. So far so good.

Probably for the best you can't play MP atm, the lag and prediction has been really bad on PSN, I've lost count the amount of times killcam has shown me not even firing a round when I've gone though half a clip of an auto-shotty... i fully expected some lag in the first week but this is another level, i really don't think the net code can keep up with the speed of the gameplay anymore.

Other than that, when you do string together a couple of kills while bounding round and sidestepping a volley of bullets it feels great and the only reason i'm persevering though the lag.

Played some more SP last night and the story is the usual Hollywood ridiculousness full of sloppily telegraphed plot twists and eye rolling one liners.

And yet I can't stop playing!! Certain things look really good and draw you into the world the development team have created but then there are some really little things that are just really "old gen". For example, the lack of environmental destruction. Why can I shoot wine glasses (which explode into far larger showers of glass than there should be) but not plastic bottles? It grates.

Non-essential NPCs suffer from "broad shoulder syndrome" where they wander about as if they've left the coat hanger in the shirt when they put it on. This is really noticeable on suit wearing NPCs.

Sounds picky but I find it really noticeable.

What ever happened to the dedicated servers they promised with the launch of Ghosts?

The single player in this is pretty decent and I'm enjoying it and the multi isn't bad but my god the hit detection and lag is pretty much deal breaking. Dedicated servers would go a long way here...

Is the xbone version using the azure servers?

If the xbox one version was using azure servers we would have certainly heard about it, loud and clear.
Activision more than likely don't want to pay MS for the servers, they are only free for a period of time (one year?) the you need to pay. Activision will just say 'why pay MS for servers when we have our own ****ty ones people have put up with for years, they keep buying it.'

Sold this already, the mp was quite fun but compared to Battlefield and Titanfall, it's backward.

I'm preferring the mp in this to Titanfall. I did really enjoy TF but it was even more arcadey run and gun which is why interest disapated so quick for me. This is still frantic but there's more meat to its bones.
