Smooth, cheers 'bowski.
This is another one of those obtuse things in the game.
Saw the crones early game and they didn't want to speak to me.
Got a bell off a boss and nothing made me think - "Oh yeah, those silent crones look like they could help me if I offered this vaguely-described trinket I got off a boss..."
I have spoken to them, though, and got a few more boosts off them.
Most of the spell stuff is unusable because my fella is so thick (low intelligence stat).
Gonna look at that guide, though, cheers.

I've been off work using up some leave this week so managed to put some decent time into this. Current set-up is Sword of Night and Flame + Lionel's armour set.
In the catacombs under Royal Capital I finally found the Dung Eater and followed his quest and beat his phantom, gaining a new sword. I'd not explored the moat area before and found a dungeon with those roller things that zoom up and down and a couple of crucible knights. Thankfully the mimic was perfect for these two rascals.
I went back up beyond the lift of Rold into the Mountaintops of the Giants feeling a fair bit stronger than I did the first time. Beat the Fire Giant (had to bust out the Bloodhound's Fang for this one) and pushed on to a new area called Crumbling Farum Azula. It's here I called upon some co-op to beat a (non-compulsory) big bad you meet pretty early on. It's an epic fight on a wide open battlement and with two players pulling the agro this way and that it's a lot of fun and hugely satisfying
Finished up by fighting the first proper boss (bosses). With there being multiple I hit another summon and had another really enjoyable battle. The teamwork and understanding without any words always gives me the feels in these games. Love it. It was funny though ... I thought we'd beat them and hit the emotes, jumping for joy and waving and stuff, only for the second phase to kick inLast edited by Atticus; 02-02-2023, 08:35.

Sounds like you are a few steps ahead of me.
I'm at the capital, but decided to see if I can get a few more trinkets for a decent bleed build, so started following up a few questlines.
I saw that dungeon with all the deathtraps and gave it a miss for now.
Doing Milicent's quest which lead me to the Shaded Castle.
I was supposed to blaze in, get the gizmo and blaze out, but spent the night enjoying clearing out the whole area.
Roasted the one boss, but got beaten by another a few times, but that's fine as I recovered the runes each time.
It's a really cool location that just begs to be investigated - sealed up castle surrounded by poison plants in the moat, but a few broken walls allows you to get in to face all the bile-spewing zombies and such.
Next stop was the Lanky Len Goldskin Noble by the windmills.
Yikes, that's a creepy place with all the women possessed and dancing around.
I remember earlier in the thread someone mentioning it and was looking forward to finding it.
Sadly the next part is on the frozen wastelands section, along with Seppuku, rivers of blood and some other bits, that I want now, but also don't want to rush to.
If I get those now, there's nowhere else to explore with these new gadgets, so I'm just going to carry on mooching.
Currently in the Capital outskirts only to be pecked apart by a deathbird.

I find this guy to be a really interesting player to watch
skip to 22minutes for actual game-play he seems really knowledgeable and really fun to watch and is just so laid back with how he plays it, hes good at the game but not what i would call an Elden ring master.
what chimps post do for me is perfectly distill what makes this game so good, its all about the exploration. You just come across a castle that's sinking into a swamp your not given some marker or quest to go there and just come across these places naturally while exploring yes their are quests that point you towards places but theirs a lot more to find if you venture off the beaten track.
It's a real break form the likes of Forbidden West which bombard you with Map markers and things that send you backwards and forwards across the map and make the game into a check list type thing. With this its all about looking at the map for interesting looking places and just going and looting them for treasure, killing whatever dark creatures live their so you can get cool new things to kill stuff with and level up in the process.Last edited by Lebowski; 02-02-2023, 13:38.

I've said several times that I love the Castlevania boxart because it's so well framed, with your protagonist ready to battle his way to the top of a castle, with the leering face of a vampire watching it all with amusement.
This game feels like that emotion. You see a castle in the distance or down a crevasse and your curiosity is piqued and you have to explore. Then a bit more. Then a bit more.
I've been trying to capture that in the snaps as it's easy to take for granted what a great experience this is when you're in the moment/trying not to be killed by 97.2% of the NPCs.
Yesterday, in the capital outskirts, after defeating the deathbird (sounds like a band fuse would listen to...) I made my way to the gate, but there are 3 of those giants protecting it, so I made my way around by riding along the left cliffedge, only to find a dungeon signpost statue. I lit him and he pointed straight down and I could see a mausoleum ripe for plundering.
I was wrong when I thought I could horse my way down the sheer cliff, so respawned got my runes and looked at the map and saw the way down. Nearly got pelted by the giant archers, but found that prisoner guy by the lake, rustling up some grilled crab. Took about three attempts to talk to him as I kept getting bit by mosquitos.
Chased after one and a giant crusty crab appeared.
I was wrong when I thought it was harmless enough and it spat death blight on me, so respawned, got my runes and went back to kill the crab and finish our conversation - basically he's bigging up how terrifying the rot guy is.
Made my way to the mausoleum killing a couple of minor bears, then one of those massive ones appeared, but I managed to kill it, staying just behind the claws.
However, the statue was pointing to a cave in the rocks, so went there instead.
Spent ages doing it as you keep having to open trap chests to be transported to the next section, which looked like the last section!
Came out, ran into the bear and he killed me with two swipes.
Respawned, picked up the runes, ran into the mausoleum.
Turns out, it's the Auriza Hero's Grave that I think Atticus was in recently.
Left it as it was as I was watching a video on how brutal it is!
So, back up to the gate, but that horse and knight boss is guarding it.
Did the old Tear & Spear combo to make short work of him.
Spent the rest of the night exploring the capital.
Told myself I'd play another 30 minutes.
Two hours later, I was still exploring.
"I don't like that song..."
Finally called it quits after hours of exploration and death upon reaching the sewer system where that rot boss is going to invade, I think.
Originally posted by Golgo View Post^ I like that bull-centipede one. And that trident blood rain attack is epic.
It's a great crowd control tool too. Several sections of the capital had about 6 to 8 enemies in a bunch and you could run into the middle then fire the trident to wipe them all out as I found trying to take them all on leads to them just outnumbering you.

I was off work loads this week and put some serious time in ... and finally finished the game last night. Absolutely loved the endingStraight back into NG+ to smash that opening boss that kicked my head in last time round
The bosses approaching the end were challenging but super enjoyable battles. I'd say half were done with my mimic summon and half with people summons. All fights just felt epic!
Before engaging with the game closer I went back and challenged the three phantoms in front of the giant pot. So glad I did as the talisman is a doozey!
Phenomenal game. Amazing progression of the formula. Didn't feel I had it in me for another Souls game but I loved every second.
