Do the people that are experiencing slowdown have modded PS2's or Japanese machines?

no its like we7 again
the slowdown has been there in the last few 'first times' - by this i mean its in the original we6 or 7 and gone from the evo or international version ... there are ways around it - cutting crowd noise to 1 star home and away/ commentary to 1 star/ removing on screen data such as player name/strat setting/ team names ... even the timer all goes to help reduce the slowdown....
easiest method is find a stadium which has the minimum and use that exclusively (for two player matches)

I must have some freakish copy of WE7 then. Its not we7i, and I have experienced literally no slowdown, and I play nearly exclusively 2 player/co-op matches using the far camera angle.
Anyway, its going to be interesting to see when us regularly shipped chavs have our copies arrive. Im guessing most of ours were all posted on Monday afternoon, so may the race to our letterboxes begin.

Agree with John - I had a few people over last-night; broke out the Projector, hooked up the PS2 and had ourselves quite a few games.
Initially, the slow-down did grate, but after a few games we wasn't really fussed about it, although things like that should've be ironed out before the game's release and since it only seems to occur when the penalty box is packed, I think the problem lies with the PS2 hardware. IMO of course.
The thing that was important to me was that the game still retains that Winning Eleven magic. You know, it's where anything is possible. Take my scenario for example; I was 3-0 down at half-time against my brother's Real, I made a few inspiried changes and brought the score back to 3-3, the dying moments of the game, Kaka picked out a superb ball to Shevchenko, who went on to score for the win.
As I said in a previous post, the off-the-ball AI is so much better now, players move up with play accordingly, giving you more options now. I always felt frustrated with International because that rarely occurred unless you manually performed a 1-2 pass or something.
The best WE yet! Despite the obvious slow-down problem IMO.

I love all the new animations, there seems to be loads of them especially whilst Tackling, the way the players fall and get jolted off the ball is fantasitc. Shooting is easier imo now as well. I just wish I was a student again and could spend all day mastering teh skillz!

Like with any Winning Eleven title, there are so many little things that have been implemented that you effectively need to re-learn the mechanics again.
Shooting for example, took a few games to get used to. My brother had become accustomed to hitting R1+R2 so that the ball is knocked further in front then striking it; went like a bullet in most cases.Last edited by Bleeders; 05-08-2004, 08:47.

Well on my 100% pure original of WE8, the only slowdown I get it at Goal Kicks, and once on one corner, played a world cup with England three humans on one team, fantastic, it feels so different, we basically didn't get the hang of it. But what's always great about a new Winning Eleven is "that way to score" is usually completly impossible, I am gonna run through the tutorials tonight see if I can pick anyhting up.

No mate, thats not a bad thing. Its just a sign WE has got you in its evil grasp.
I stupidly got my hopes up this morning when I heard the postie drop his load through the letterbox. Was WE8 in there? Was it bollocks.
Tomorrow then! Oh, for anyone who has the game now (bastards), can you tell me if Inamoto is in the Japanese squad?

Ive stupidly convinced myself it will get here by tomorrow and me and a mate have a curry, beer and WE8 session. Please god let it turn up tomorrow.
Anyone checked out the special tricks thread on Evo-web? There seems to be loads of new moves to pull off. Im definitely going to have to do some research in order to figure out how to get the most out of this version.
