Believe me, I've spent hours practising, but the best I can do is hit the bar or really test the keeper by hitting it towards one of the corners, but the keepers always keep my free kicks out.

Players can turn on the spot, you've got about 3 different way to do it, tap shoulders, hold shoulders, wiggle this, wiggle that...its reading like something else...

Okay then, they should be able to turn quickly on the spot.
I use the shoulder buttons a lot but the basic analogue turning is still a bit wank.

It is technically a "skill" to turn on the spot....hence its unequivocal explicable and interesting adaptation of the move into the series.

That might just change if/when it hits the XBox *fingers crossed*

The buttons are going to be MENTAL for the Xbox version...surely its going to be worse than the GC version for crap mappings...?

Turning on the spot is pretty easy to do; I use it quite a lot and it's a great way to throw off your opponent. The best way to do it is to dribble slowly (i.e. let go of the controls), press R1 to stop and quickly press the direction you want to turn to. I think the success rate depends on who you're using, but you know, even my flatmate managed to pick up on it and uses it all the time against me now ("That's my f-ing skill you're using!" I scream. Every time).

Well I reckon that more control could be placed on the analogue stick as far as running/turning quickly goes. I've just learned the super cancel R1+R2 move in PES3 and I don't understand why Konami couldn't have incorporated the move into the the more basic controls, it improves the game so much and yet feels like complication for the sake of it.

It may not work better on XBox, I'd just be happier if I could get more realistic movement on the analogue stick alone.

Playing with the analogue stick is a bit of a waste of time, lacks the precision of the D-Pad. I've never come across anyone who is both good at the game, and uses the analogue stick - the two would appear to be mutually exclusive.

You've never met the mighty JibberX then... I not only am the greatest WE player in the universe... but I also use the analogue sticks, because my girly fingers can't cope with the PS2's bizarre d-pad configuration.

As an aside, if any other publisher, in any other game, at any other time said a major upgrade was a referee running around the pitch...they would be ripped to shreds...are there subliminal messages in WE or what?

Jib, you're ****e though. 4-0 to marcus remember?

Shark is correct, WE is a digital game and is played best with the d-pad.

I made the switch from d-pad to stick when i first got we7i, on all previous pes/we games i used the d-pad. No real reason i just fancied a change, cant say ive noticed myself playing worse or better though.
Scoring from the half way line is pretty easy. Make sure your just over the line and at the right or left hand side of the pitch (depending on your players preferable foot) then hit it at nearly full whack.
Im shat at free kicks though.

edit/ actually scratch that. Spured on by this thread i decided to return to d-pad control. One match in and i realise the errors of my ways. Why did i leave? im such a fool.

Another 'D' pad user, although my good friend Gradius plays with the analogues, sometimes he wins sometimes he loses. I just couldn't get used to it though.
