Thankfully back in the day the Saturn was my console of choice. Due entirely to Sega Rally and Streetfighter Alpha 2.Plus the fact that IMO the Playstation didn't have a single title that hadn't been bettered on Saturn. So my Saturn collection is pretty much complete. The only title that has eluded me is Radiant Silvergun. Not being into shooters back then I passed up on this title. I always intended to get it when the price dropped. Ha ha never happened has it. Do people think that this tilte will just get more expensive now or will a ceiling be reached and the price will start to fall again?

        The History

First time i sampled the delights of the Sega Saturn was around November 1995. I was at one of my mates getting all the gear together for a party we were dj-ing at that night when another mate who lived close by called round and asked us to come to his house to check out his new console - now his last 2 consoles had been a 3do and a neo-geo cd, both of which had their 'alright' games but nothing which had captured me away from my super fami. so around his house we went and he showed us his Sega Saturn ---- hmmmmm bit big and bulky ain't it was the first thing my mate said (not the one owning it but the one who's house i was at). so we all got settled down when he popped it on -- and the opening movie of Panzer Dragoon just blew me away.... i was instantly in love with this game. needless to say i arrived at the party 3 hours late (but still managed to do a good set ). next day i ordered my very own Saturn with a copy of PD. since then i have owned 5 saturns - one i sold to purchase an n64 (foolish foolish man), another blew up when someone plugged a UK power lead into it (arggggggggghhhh - your supposed to use the stepdown you tit), and the other 3 are still in my possession. i want another saturn to add to the library - preferably a derby stallion one

        The Gallery

Ebony and Ivory, living together in perfect harmony.....

both have 4mb ram carts - both are chipped - UK version also has an added 50/60hz switch.

Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei

the game that got it all started and its superior sequel - gaming nirvana

KoF Collection - some people slag off the saturn devs of these games but personally i prefer to have them on the saturn (especially since i got rid of my AES (too damn pricey) - plus an extra copy of kof 96

Xmen Children of the Atom - big big Xmen fan so when this came out i was in heaven

Marvel Super Heroes - another series i am a fan of - Spiderman totally kicks ass

Streetfighter Collection - only 'original' SF games currently in my library, there for posterity reasons plus SF Zero 2 Gold is awesome (my fav version of SF Zero)

Samurai Shodown 4 - was a fan of this for a while but totally gone off it now.

Pocket Fighters - sheer fun-ness. great laugh multiplayer

Xmen vs Streetfighter - Ryu fighting Wolverine??? when i heard about this game i almost bust a nut (so to speak). quality action

Virtua Fighter Remix - thankfully a better version than the original, with added bonus of a portrait cgi disc

Virtua Fighter 2 - imho the best 32-bit generation fighter - perfect in every way

Last Bronx - fun for a while but sadly not as enjoyable as Soul Edge

Dead or Alive - the bouncy - great game which doesn't get the respect it deserves from others

Virtual On - only thing i can say about this is i need some twin sticks

Dracula X - Nocturne in the Moonlight -- great game with the extra added from the psx version

Guardian Heroes - took a while to grow on me but it did and is now much loved. used to piss me off though at first fighting on the dual 'plane' - hated that in fatal fury

Elevator Action Returns - best action platformer ever? maybe not but its very close. brought back memories of childhood playing Impossible Mission

shmup library is no where near finished yet but these are whats in it upto now

        DonPachi
        Kingdom Grandprix
        Radiant Silvergun
        kaitei daisensou (in the hunt)
        detana twinbee yahho-! deluxe pack
        kyukyoku tiger 2 plus
        sengoku blaede
        cotton 2
        Assault suit leynos 2

2 of the best games ever with an addon pack and a mighty fine controller

Nights into Dreams - simply love this for various reasons which i posted in the features forum

Christmas Nights - Sega showing their love - best free gift ever? i think so

Burning Rangers - simply love this even if it does push the saturn too far in the latter stages. please smilebit release an Xbox sequel

the best lightgun games of the 32-bit generation. playing through it with mates only aiming for justice shots - sheer bliss

The gameplay was good at the time of release but these days its not so much fun. As is the case with most retro games.

Kudos for the pictures of the Saturn stuff Camps. You've made me a very jealous man.

            Delicious stuff.

Yashiro, I agree most 'retro' games don't always age well.

But there are timeless games out there on varying platforms that are just as mesmerising today as they were upon release.

That's a great visual reference Camps - cheers for the pics.

I'm trying to keep a level head with regards to Saturn purchases - it's true that some games don't age well; so rather than just buying everything, I only want the must buys (at least to start with)

Jeez, Yash, I was only being light-hearted. Chill man!

Great stuff, Camps. Excellent pictures, and I'm jealous all over again

                  cheers guys

need to update my pics actually - picked up quite a bit more Saturn stuff recently (including another boxed white Saturn but this one in better condition)

will try to get them up later today

thing with collecting Saturn games is that prices can jump up for a particular title overnight

Camps, sorry to hijack but I'm very interested in running Mame on my Xbox, how does it run (particularly the bigger stuff like Slug 3), does it do full framerate without slowdown?

Again sorry to hijack but I value your opinion!!
