Which game made you buy that console?

    Spinning off from t'other thread...

Assuming you don't buy every console on launch day, what was the game that made you buy each console? New, old, doesn't matter - I'll go first.

    Gamecube - Pikmin
    XBox - KOTOR
    Dreamcast - SF 3rd Strike
    PS2 - Onimusha

Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox, by far. That was back when I honestly wasn't seeing the big deal about the hype for the Box (it has since proved itself to become my favourite platform though), but JSRF was this huge advancement of an already excellent game. It was fate that it was on Xbox, and thusly bought myself one.

Likewise, Goldeneye on the N64 cemented its position for me. I wasn't really aware of it till me and a couple of mates took to the single shot kills deathmatch; Boing, purchased!

These are the games I bought at the same time as each console:

Super Mario World, Street Fighter II (SNES)
        Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter (Saturn)
Sega Rally 2, PowerStone, Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast)
Starfox 64, Pilotwings 64, GoldenEye, Mario 64, Blast Corps (N64)
Resident Evil, Formula One, WipeOut 2097 (PlayStation)
        Gran Turismo 3, Winning Eleven 5 (PS2)
        Castlevania, F-Zero (GBA)
Biohazard, Super Monkey Ball, Luigi's Mansion (Cube)
Panzer Dragoon Orta, JSRF, Halo, DOA3 (Xbox)

Some were bought at PAL launch (GBA,SS,DC), some after a price reduction (N64,PS), and some I've bought used (XB,GC,PS2) but normally I'll buy a console within a year of it's launch...I usually wait untill the hardware becomes established with at least two or three games I want before shelling out though.

I went out and bought a Playstation after having played Alien Trilogy on a borrowed machine. I do like Aliens.

Even more important for me was the release of F355 Challenge which sent me rushing down the shops for a shiny new Dreamcast.

Of the two purchases the Dreamcast was by far the best buy on a gameplay level. PSO for goodness sake.

Well in the MD era it was a combo of Gunstar Hero's and both Shining Force games (unfortunately I just didn?t earn enough cash to break into the whole SNES import scene )

I was kind of interested in Pokemon, so when I saw a 2nd hand N64 (?35 - at time a huge bargain, and actually cheaper than the game itself...) and the freshly released Stadium, I was back into console gaming full time.

PS1 was definitely the fantastic Vagrant Story. Actually it was an odd reversal of this threads idea that really made me buy a PS2 - I was just taking back the awful Blaze & Blade (ps1) to my local shop and it suddenly dawned on me that I didn?t need to spend my time hunting for crapass ps1 titles anymore. One huge clear-out trade later and I'm playing FFX and Dynasty Warriors 3

For me, recently, it's actually been Star Wars games every time. The first shots of Starfighter on PS2, those early hi-res ones that really did look fantastic, convinced me that I had to get a PS2.

Then there came the shots of Rogue Leader on GameCube, and that pretty much sealed the deal there.

And then when it was confirmed that Knights of the Old Republic would be launching on Xbox significantly ahead of the PC, that made the Xbox a must-buy as well.

A little further back, a day in a shopping centre somewhere in the country the weekend when the Dreamcast demo pods first arrived allowed for some time on Sonic Adventure and Toy Commander, and they absolutely sold the DC to me.

As for the PSone, a magazine article on Soul Blade/Soul Edge was all it took to convince me

These games where the most influential purchasing decision when buying each of the below consoles:

                            Xbox - Halo
                            PS2 - SSX
                            GC - Wave Race
N64 - Goldeneye (the only console from the lisyt of which I didn't buy at launch)
                            PS1 - Wipeout
                            DC - Sega Rally

Diagaea has made me buy PS2. I've been wanting one, but, I took the plunge and I have bought Disagaea, and soon I shall get a PS2.

Halo and the emulation for XBox

Super Monkey Ball for the GC.

                              FFVII for the Playstation.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for the N64.

Wario 4 for GBA (what a let down).
