Blown away 2bh, i must have been it was something like ?500/?600 for the console and the 2 games.

On first play in the shop Pilotwings was the one i wanted, the freedom to fly around, and there was an amazing surroundings where you could go anywhere, Mario 64 graphically looked amazing, but it wasnt until i got it home and played it that i realised just how good it was(after playing things like Jumping jack flash etc on the psone i wasnt expecting it to have the playability to backup the visuals)

all in all a great time was had for quite some time, although 4 player MK64 got the most play when it was released.

and didnt those cartridges feel great.

The n64 was the most impressive console at launch tbh, I remember I could only afford my N64 and Mario 64...and I played Mario64 non stop for months. Then I got Wave Race, Mario Kart 64 and Turok in about a week, it was amazing

The n64 was my first and only imported console. It was a mixture of wanting the games ASAP and needing to play Mario 64 as it was intended - full screen, full speed - that persuaded me to get my HK console. I spent so much time in HMV on the pod playing SM64, it was just fantastic.

Was given my saturn when my brother bought his ps1, but I would have bought one for Virtua Fighter 1.

After watching my brother get really into FFVII and then Square games in general, including parasite eve, I bought myself a chipped ps1 (with FFT)

I didn't jump on the DC bandwagon for a while and decided that from now on I'd wait till there were enough games that I wanted to play on a console to cover the price of the console, ie by the time I bought the DC it was around ?150 so when there were ?150 worth of games I wanted to play then I'd buy the console, though Soul Calibur was the deciding factor in finally taking the plunge.

Similar deal with the playstation2, which I picked up for around ?200 (gt3 bundle), though this was partly due to the decline of the DC and the promise of more Square games and other rpgs on the ps2.

Finally picked up and xbox in may for ?140 (missing out on the ?75 sainsburys deals), was due to a few games including PDO (and it seems the sega console of choice with JSRF as well) and xboxlive as a load of friends were getting online this way with a whole range of games as opposed to the usual pc suspects of fps' and mmorpgs

Going back as far as I can remember:

Mega Drive - My brother was selling his JAP machine really cheaply to get a SNES and he has Sonic which I loved so I got it from him.

Mega CD - I didn't want it specifically for one game, I just wanted to get one!

              Saturn - Daytona USA

N64 - Legend of Zelda - Ocarine of Time

              Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure

              PS2 - Gran Turismo 3

              JAP PS2 - Initial D

              Gamecube - Resident Evil remake

XBOX - Halo & Jet Set Radio Future

GBA SP - Never got a vanilla GBA as it didn't have a backlight, when the SP came out I had no excuse!

Why I brought my consoles, in random order.

I brought the playstation one for a game called Kurushi. My friend had a playable demo of it and I was hooked on it. Brought the PSX and Metal Gear the next day. Took a month to find the full Kuroshi game though. I bet no one thought Kuroshi as a console seller.

Dreamcast was brought for a mixture of titles, but the one that tilt the boat was Crazy Taxi.

Xbox I brought because it was cheap (?220 when the machine was still going for ?300.) but I wouldn't have brought it were it not for Halo. My second Xbox, a chipped one, was brought to have Ninja Gaiden uncut.

UK PS2 I brought for Grand Theft Auto. Walked into my local indie, and my friend who used to work there passed me the controls for the shop demonstation model. At that time I still hadn't forgiven the machine for killing the Dreamcast with overhype and a load of sub-standard games.

US PS2 was brought primarily for Disgaea as I thought it would never see the light of day in the UK. Three weeks later, guess what Koei announced.

N64 was my first machine, brought with Mario 64 and Turok simply to have a games console. My gaming friend convinced me to buy it as he already had the PSX. Buying an old Snes shortly followed. Gamecube was brought because I loved the N64 and Snes so much.
