In other words, you cheated? You don't HAVE to pass the test, just do it - be judged, and continue... if you retook it, that's your prerogative.

Who said Shenmue was a better example of an RPG?!? HA!

Uh.. I did it to raise my SeeD rank. How is that cheating?

Anyway, it's still a crap game so there.

I actually think FFX is great, which is something coming from me, the anti-FF (FF7 was bollocks I tell you, BOLLOCKS). The storyline's very cliched but well told and all of the characters are belivable in their own ways. A little bit of rushed progression here and there admitedly, and the silly difficulty spike against one of the uber bad dudes about half way through the game was annoying, but this is definiately one of Square's better attempts.

I haven't played FFX as I gave up on the series, but do the newer games still have SNES-style MIDI music?

FFX had a good story for the most part, but after a couple of hours of repetative gameplay that's not much different from the previous FF games, it can become a chore to play.

The music in FFX is not MIDI like all previous FF games. There's a fair bit of synth in there from memory, but there are acoustical instruments used for a lot of the tunes.

                I loved FF7 and FFX, however I didn't like 8.

There might be better RPG experiences out there but I certainly have not played a better one that FF7, and while some of you might say "you ain't played a lot of RPGs then", I just loved playing it through.

What kept me interested was the story, character building, materia system and maybe combined with the fact that it was my first RPG. However there may be games out there with more depth than FF7 which you might think are better, but at the time of playing FF7 the depth was just right for my enjoyment of the game.

TBH Squares best game was Chorno Trigger, it boasted a good story, and a good gameplay system, TBH I think all of Squares efforts since then (maybe apart from FF7) has gone downward.

BTW, is FFX-2 any good? I hate to complete games and then never solve the story, so i'm afraid I will have to get it regardless.

FFX-2 is weird, I got it around the same time as FFXI so I haven't devoted much time to it, but I can't get to grips with the combat. It's HECTIC. The total opposite of FFX, which gave you time to plan your strategy... it seems like total random pummeling, but you're supposed to time attacks so they chain together. I can't do it.

Beyond that, it's the campest game I've ever played in my life. Still oozes FF class, but...

I've only played two FF games, VI and VII. Didn't like VII, thought VI was alright, but thought they paled to non-FF games. Wasn't keen on the story in VII (especially as by the time I played it, the twists had been spoiled). Plus I thought Cloud was a bit of a dick, even if you did get Mr T... I mean Barrett.

I loved the way in VI there didn't seem a main character. I would say at least three or four characters could have that role. Shame if it was meant to be Terra, I wasn't a huge fan of her quietness, compared to Locke, Celes, Edgar, Cyan etc. But the way anyone could learn any spell meant I was Ultima-ing my way through the game at the end.

And what's with Square's fascination with androgynised teenage boys?

FFXI is probably the most engrossing of them all, but I can't really see it as a pure FF game. I almost think they should have left out the 'XI' and just called it FF: Online.
