I'm a bit like this. Resident Evil is a strange game, very atmospheric with a decent plot (decent meaning laughable ) but it also frustrates me with its often annoying controls and general play mechanics. For this reason, I have never bought any of the games myself, preferring to watch a friend. It's also a bit scary to play alone

I'm 28 and most of the friends who come round won't request to play a game at all but eventually one of them will ask 'So have you got any new games then?' or What was the name of that game we played last time...'

Last night I introduced DOAXB to 2 friends and explained how lonely it can feel when no one will partner you and they chuck all you presents away. I think it shocked them that a game like that which looks a bit sad, can actually make you feel emotional when played. Ans that is why I play games rather than watch soaps, support football. I control my own feelings when playing not some scriptwriter or team manager.

Samba, DDR, Virtua Tennis, Light guns games, button mashers beat'em ups for general play (inc the wifes friends)

Halo PGR Ghost recon SC for other games players

I've got loads of mates who I play games with - probably about 3 or 4 regularly. Mainly play Monkey ball, WE6FE, Halo, Worms, Micro Machines...

Generally just all play together so we all like the same games. The only problem is that we don't have the spare time that we used to have as kids... an one of my mates is rules by a particularly big thumb!

In fact, I've got a 'games evening' on Friday night.

halo co-op is the most fun you can have with a mate (or partner...)

FPS are made for multiplayer gaming - i also love the mario party (i have all of them ) but none of my friends will play it with me ft:

I get really bored of beat em up on VS mode but games like guardian heroes are fab.

Ikaruga is pretty cool multiplayer but i hate sharing my lives with crap players

I don't do too bad. I have a mate who is as much into games as I am. He also owns a Neo Geoas well, so we often meet up and play (practically all Neo games are 2P, so between us, there's a lot of games to get through, although we particularly love King Of Fighters, of course). We also muck about on all of his systems (he has over a thousand games and about 30 consoles).

My other two gaming mates are both PAL gamers, and therefore I am often quite bored of their stuff when it comes out. I don't want to sit and watch a mate play through Mario Sunshine when I've done it myself 8 months previously.

Where things got really good, though, was the DC. On the strength of Quake 3, I got all my mates to buy one, and we met up every night for online gaming. Just the other day, a LAN gaming centre opened near my house, and we've re-aquainted ourselves with this pasttime. What makes it even better is that two of my mate's GFs come along and really enjoy it too (we've been on Unreal 2K3 so far), so it's very social.

Used to have 4 of us meet every night on PSO too. Is better playing with people you really know, even online.

I guess the story captivates them, but they don't want to go through the fight sequences in order to enjoy the narrative sequences. Valkyrie profile and FFVIII have both been enjoyed in such a way. Never did they want to touch the controller themselves.
Thats exactly what happens with my brother. Having said that, he played FFVII through before I did, he got a PSX for X-mas way back and I convinced the parents to buy it for him. Since then he has probably played the game through at least 5 times, each time obtaining everything and I do mean everything, gold chocobo, Knights of the Round material as well as killing the Ruby and Emerald weapons. If that isn't an advert for how good a game FFVII is, I don't know what is

If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have finished FFX as I was starting to get fed up about half way through. Random battles do wear down even the keenest FF fans

We brought the PS2 downstairs over the Easter weekend and I found another game we tend to play alot in co-op, Extreme G3. Alot of teamwork is required to get 1st and 2nd positions, especially in the later races. And since your funds are split you have to be careful as to which bike upgrades to attain and when. Good stuff.

                    Where should I start?

well my brotheir is into championship manager although, he recently took back CM4 to GAME, because he was playing it to much and he said that he had to get on with his uni essay. . He also likes to play splinter cell on my xbox, and zelda on my cube. When he has mates round he play's on super monkey ball with them. They all get pissed while playing, it is a right laugh. I also lended him my DC and he plays on that a lot i think his favourite game on that is virtua tennis.

My brothiers friend plays on super mario sunshine on my cube everytime he comes round and he is thinking about getting a cube with mario off ebay.

my mate dean has a gamecube, and a GBA SP. he has u.s zelda and a freeloader, and he really likes mortal kombat DA and he wants to get mario kart and SC2. he also does not like the fact that i am getting a gp32 over the sp.

My best mate colsion, isnt really into gaming anymore but will still play the odd game with me.

Then there is this guy who lives round the corner from me who hates importers, he says I and other importers are all impaitent lazy bastards, with to much money on their hands and no social life. hum de hum.

What surprises me when looking through this thread is the amount of people whose regular gaming friends live far away and they don't get to play often.

I used to live with a good mate who was good competition, then he moved away and I moved in with my lady. Since then, it's very difficult for me to find any decent comeptition.

It's things like this that makes me optimistic about online gaming. I don't have xbox live at the mo, because my mate can't get broadband where he is. I'm not too interested in playing people I don't know, but the idea of being able to play my mates despite them being a few hundred miles away is very appealing.

methinks we need to start up a 'gaming dates' service for people who live nearby.

enabling people to have regular hook ups/gaming sessions with people who like to play games
