Most of us have, that's why it's probably just you

No problems with jumping, no problems with item pickup... there is such a thing as momentum when moving which explains not stopping on a penny when you release the stick
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

      Shocking!

Then it's a bit **** that they put tiny little ledges in it, then, if they knew you wouldn't be able to stop on a penny... LEAVE OUT THE PENNIES!

You are going to have to concede its just you on this Sprite Machine although I may not get to to concede its just you on MK : DD tho .

We really need to bump the SSBM thread back up (if it still exists). I have having a real urge to play it again.

I know it's very fashionable on these forums to slate a game rather than learn how to play it but let me add this about Smash Melee:

Jump is on the joystick yes, but it's totally optional - good players use the buttons as it's easier to direct your jumps. To activate jump on the stick you move it to it's topmost extreme, it doesnt activate at any value above top so it doesnt activate accidiently. Moving left and right or even moving the stick 3/4 of the way up will not even activate a jump. It's not something which just flicks accidently, I use halfway up on the analogue stick + attack as my main combo launcher and never accidently jump ever.

Smash Melee is a very deep battle game, it's just that a lot of people just refuse to accept that games require a little learning from the player. The controls are absolutely spot on for the large number of attack defense options available to you, this game is not tactically shallow as some people suggest:

              Defence:
R button = block (standard block)
tap R button on impact = parry (block with frame advantage)
click R in mid air = Z axis dodge (hit attack to catch items dodged)
              R + down = A axis dodge
R + left or right = defensive roll (it's invincible = but vunerable on intro/exit frames as per VF, SC or similar)

This is defense alone - watch 2 very good players going at it and it looks like a true 3D beat em up in the way players duck, weave, roll and counter attacks coming at them. There is an absolutely superb throw game in there too which can get just as intense as a Soul Calibur block/parry/throw battle. There are exploits too - like if you run at full whack, jump then mid air dodge almost instantly and you skim forward past your opponent with dodge properties.

I'm sorry but any game where you can throw a baseball bat in the air, dodge an opponents attack, roll behind him - throw, juggle baseball bat comes back down from the sky and KOs - it's genius.

And that is why I'd like to go up against people like Saurian someday on the game, but don't really get the chance

                  Oh really?

I'm always up for a kickoff man - just tell me when and I'll try! Might be able to organise something with a few more players from here.

Competitive multiplayer, Starcraft. It quite simply has a remarkable level of depth and scope for strategic and skillful play. Each of the races are very different in look, function and structure, each encourages different styles of play and offers unique possibilities. And in spite of this, the game is supremely well balanced.
Runners up: Super Smash Bros. Melee, Bomberman

Cooperative multiplayer, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords+. Ingenious, original and great fun. One of only a handful of games I can think of that is designed as co-operative from the ground up, requiring you to work together not just allowing someone else to tag along behind you. A sorely under-used form of multiplayer I feel.
Runners up: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (GBA), Kuri Kuri Mix

Sounds good... I'd need to brush a few cobwebs off (I never really got over losing my almost complete save game 18 months ago) but I'd be up for it at some point. Ganondorf r00ls j00

Just a pity they neutered Luigi in Melee, otherwise I'd probably be playing him... I was practically unbeatable as him in the first game
