    So many memories....

Completing Shenmue 1 was wonderful experience but also a slight disappointment when i realised i had to go into town and buy Shenmue 2 only for me to acquire the game and have my dreamcast die on me. Still haven't got round to buying a new one and i still have the game sat on my desk waiting to be played. Oh and the moment when you realise you can replay the massive dock fight over and over again to your hearts content. Oh how i love Shenmue

Playing Axelay on hard last weapon, no lives left end of game boss, beat the git, thinking I'd finished the game started celebrating, then theres an extra bit as it tries to run away, scared the hell outta me, games shudn't be allowed to be so intense (was also in the early 90s funnily enough...)

Taking down the final boss of Contra Spirits on SFC set to hard difficulty, only for something surprising to happen! Then blowing the carp out of that too.

Final boss of Bangai-o. Of course by the time you stop jumping around the room you realise you've missed the end sequence, and disappointment sets in.

Beating the 100 cracked fist sections in Fighting Mania.

Playing einhander on a dev machine at psygnosis with all the game bods watching and flying through it with ease all the way to the end, pure buzz specialy when you have an audience that keeps growing.

Finishing mega man 2 on the nes when i was about 7 i rember the dragon boss neer the end being really hard as you had to fight it while jumping on these blocks that were constantley disapering, after that it made you fight all the bosses again, and this was actualy diffrent as some of the bosses were quite easy to beat

metal man i rember only took one hit from his own weapon and he was a gonner,

then once you get to the end boss after batteling through a load more sub bosses realising that the only way to beat him was with the bubble gun which was the worst gun in the game, capcom are mean beggers arent they

Finally and at long last fighting and defeating Malak in Star Wars Kotor. That game was long, and fun and as much as I hated finishing it, that git deserved my purple double lightsabre up his ass... Took me sodding ages to do it. He was so flukey the first few times....

Finally finishing Ring of Red. That game just keeps throwing missions at you, i thourght it would never end and there all about 4 hours long each.

When i completed it i sat alone and had a nice silent moment to myself nowing i never have to do it again because it was finally over.

Ahh Einhander! A fine game and little mentioned nowadays. Was it ever given a european release?

"The best feeling in the world"

I was thinking about this whilst doing a long muggy boring night shift, + well this is easy for me to answer - Half-Life DM.

Bought my first pc cos of HL, had read about it in some mag/paper + so walked into PC world one afternoon, just to look, was playing HL that very same night

Started multiplayer a few days later, i can actually remember spawning on the bridge in boot camp, lol, standing still turning on the spot, and firing the pistol, all the classic signs of a n00b. Then after a while i realised this multiplayer lark was ruthless, - i simply could not get used to K+mouse, after coming from console pads it was a major change, and i found it hard, -very hard work. Back up to pc world, bought a pc pad that looked just like a N64 pad, it was useless and i was still ****e. Eventually found a control system i could get to grips with, (still not a K+M ) and after what seemed many months of getting my arse handed to me, i finally seemed to improove.
Many more months followed, and eventually i was longjumping around like a young gazelle, + gaussing me way all over gasworks, changing to the crossbow, zooming in getting a headshot kill, and all before hitting the ground again. - pure gaming bliss !

I had started playing on the old wireplay servers (some of you i'm sure will remember back that far ) - joined a clan and eventually ended up running my own, played in Div 1 on wireplay.
Got isdn, with work paying well, and with the missus also in full time work, (no kids back then) i had plenty of spare ?'s - and thought nothing of my phone bill being ?100 - ?120 per month
I became absolutely ****ing obsessed, every spare moment i was online playing HL DM, i worked shifts (and still do) would finish work at around 2.30pm and by 3 ish i'd be online, playing all afternoon till the missus came in from work, only stopping for food + the occasional other, then back on the PC - When on nights i was terrible, every other day i'd come home from work and spend all day online instead of sleeping, how i managed with so little sleep is a mystery to me. Must've looked like a zombie.
Saturday's + Sundays then seemed to be spent slaughtering the more recent n00b's to the game, with league games on sunday night, i also became an admin on the wireplay servers and refereed clan games on a Sunday.
Wireplay was a great community and i had the pleasure of seeing and playing against some great players, - such as The Hardman, Badboy, Chinx/Diesel, all fantastic players and a class above the vast majority of us.

I can't express how much but i absolutely loved HL DM to death, ( i know my missus came close to leaving me several times during those days ).
I've not had that sense of urgency /desire for a game since, and thats a shame, but it makes my memories all the more sweeter i think.
So there ya go my best feeling in the world summed up - HLDM.

I'm really hoping that i can get into Halo 2 online, and enjoy it enough to have that feeling once more, of looking @ the clock, just itching to get home and start fraggin'

                          YW

Ahh, I love that heart pounding, dripping with sweat shakey feeling you get with a good boss battle! It makes me feel alive!!

But has anyone ever been caught between the sheer elation of that final victory and the need to stay "cool" in a non-gamer's presence? They just don't unnerstand do they. Being a relatively quiet person usually, I tend to keep my little gaming related outbursts to the privacy of my bedroom. But living in a student house, I kind of felt I had to set up the old DC in the living room for all to enjoy.

Anyway - to the point. I was playing DC Quake 3, which I hadn't played for about a year cos I couldn't finish off that evil last arena boss (not easy for me, a **** gamer at the best of times, to get into the groove with the DC controller). I'd been trying over and over for a couple of hours, gradually getting closer and closer to that 10th frag, and becoming more tense with each attempt.

I'm finally on top of things, getting ready to show this guy the finger, release all that tension, when the door bell rings and one of my mates comes in, beer and cider in hand, not a gamer. It's happened on many ocassions, usually mum bringing washing in or calling me for dinner when I was a lad - always just at the worst possible moment. This time I couldn't possibly pause, I was so close.

So to cut a rather pointless story short, I did it, and somehow managed to contain myself, shaking and sweating, unable to listen to or take in a word she was saying, smiling and nodding like some sort of deranged, desperate alcoholic, opening the beer she had brought round...

And there we have my first post

na it never got a release in europe which was a shame as the squaresoft hype was doing quite well with the release of final fantasy 7, was quite a cool little shmp though i liked the way you could nick the enemys weapons and change your ships configiration to suit how you played pure class....

wanders off to trawl ebay for a old copy
