Ross would be an excellent choice. iirc hes a pretty heavy gamer.

Outrageous Outrun 2 review

A videogame show set up like Film 2004 would be great. It'll never happen though. But yes, like Treble, I agree that gaming shouldn't bog itself in academia in presenting itself to the public. I'd like to see informed, knowledgeable and insightful reviews delivered in an entertaining and free-flowing manner.

I haven't read all of this thread as I don't really keep up with new releases but I played the Outrun 2 demo for a few minutes and thought it was poo to be honest. Very faithful to the original, which I loved, but it really didn't grab me. I haven't played the whole game but the demo didn't motivate me to do so to be honest.

theres a guy in the sunday mirror who does game reviews asweel
there usally a paragraph long and read like they were copied from a press relaease
he gave driver 3 and dino crises 3 five stars- i mean come on they werent that good
it seems like these people rate games on thier publicity and not how they play

Regarding the ST review, I'm in two minds. On one hand, it does ignore the subtleties of the game and relates length of play time from start of game to getting all the golds. On the other hand, all games have subtleties and can be played for pure enjoyment as Marklar says. Jibber is right, some people do play games from a completion point of view. Once they see a game through, they move onto something else. There is nothing wrong with this, being that for me at least I never have enough time in the day to play all the games I want to anyway.
The biggest buzz I get from a game is still the first time it 'clicks'. I too still play Sega Rally and Daytona, but often the feeling of euphoria I get is never the same as the during the very first week I played them, even though I'm better at them now than I ever used to be.
For that reason, I don't blame people not wanting to bother with subtleties and improving scores/times/whatever. At the moment Psyvariar is sitting on my shelf untouched. I could be trying to improve my buzz right now, but instead I'm having a whale of a time playing Battlefront online. I know Psyvariar is by far the better game and when I have no new games I might go back to it, but until then the new games are always likely to draw me in more.

From the demo 1/5 is waaay too low as it was fun just mindlessly racing on live against a few ppl from here. As said before, the problem these days is depth is associated with the ammount there is to do rather than genuine replay value, something which games like Outrun 2 are oozing with and that gives them a true pick up and play value that "super ultra dooper cool realistic racers" just can't match, you can put them both on and have a quick race, but Outrun 2 is more likely to be the game you get fun out of on that quick race making it more likely to turn into a long sesh.
I've put well over 300 hours into the aforementioned Sega Rally on the Saturn now, I can't think of any other racer I've played as much, all that from 4 courses and 3 cars, and of them I only ever really bothered with the Celica coz it looks cool 8)

Alright, I'll admit, when I first saw Outrun 2, I didn't know anytihng about the game, nor did I care to read up on it (I incidentally wasn't a fan of racing games) so the only thing to leave an impression on me were the nice visuals. That's all I knew about the game.
Maybe the game is fun too, I don't know in what way, as I haven't bothered finding out. But it's no longer the visual beast I once remembered it being. So I really don't care...
Oh by the way, I didn't read through the 5 pages before I posted that, so if something funny about graphics was discussed before I chimed in....

lostn,
it was more a comic timing thing.
Not really all that bothered about graphics tbh. More interested in huge over the top drifting. Outrun2 just makes the drifting so tight. The way you can change the attitude of your car to be inch perfect using a combo of gas and steering is just ace imo.

Well I think the Lancia Stratos ruled the roost because it was like trying to drive a rocket ship with wheels, talk about a sense of speed, that thing had zero traction.
Apropro with regard to previous points, some people like finishing games (or attempting to) and some people like perfecting games (or attempting to) and thanks to this now huge industry, and the diversity therein hitherto we can all be serviced. The economics of Sega Rally, compared to the production of yearly iterations of BurnOut are a testiment to the sparse releases of such games as OutRun2.
If you make'em too good, no one wants to buy anything else!
