What is the worst console?

Interesting "similar threads" down the bottom there
I'll vote for the Jaguar, personally, again because of the way it was pimped as Teh Best Thing Evaire(tm). It wouldn't have been so bad if they'd managed to sell a tump load, like the PS2.
Folk marking down the CD32 ought to be shot btw. Some typically Amiga-esque cracking games aside, how can you fault a marketting campaign which went something like:
"as Sega release their 16bit baby, Commodore release the 32bit daddy"
(cue pic of CD32 and MegaCD, or some such).

I think the CD32 has to get the vote, it felt like the cheapest piece of crap ever produced, at least the Amstrad looked half decent and didn't feel like it was going to break every time you went anywhere near it.
The Jag is officially out of the running as it has the best version of Tempest.
VOTE CD32.
You know it makes sense.

The Jag was one hell of a balls up but I couldn't possibly call it the worst console ever simply because there's more gameplay to be had than the CD32, CDi and 3DOdo put together. AVP was REALLY impressive for the time, Tempest 2000 is one of the best games ever made and it had the best console versions of Doom and Wolfie. And possibly Cannon Fodder, Raiden, Rayman and others.
There were big steamy turds, it was over-hyped, the pad was ass but Duddyroar is right, Tempest alone saves it from the bottom of the pile.

It's a toss up between the GX4000 and the C64GS for me.
The 3 good games listed for the GX appeared on other machines (and in better form too), and I've already stated what was wrong with the GS (pacticularly as I was a proud C64 stalwart back in the day).
To add to that though, I cannot even begin to imagine what posessed Commodore to use a mouldy old football game from 1983 (sporting nasty lego brick graphics) as a launch title for a console in an age where Megadrives and SNESes where on the rise.

Originally posted by DuddyroarYou can't say the Jag, Tempest saves the Jag, and AvP goes some way to redeeming it, too. The CD32 didn't have anything as good as Tempest.
(but the problem with all of those is they're available on the A1200 too. Even if Guardian sucks on anything but a CD32 pad)

Alien Breed, Liberty (think it was called that), and that Star Fox rip off weren?t too bad on the CD32. Must agree it was a sh8t console though.

Hank - Sorry but none of those titles is anywhere near as good as Tempest, I recall playing Super Stardust on the Amiga and I just didn't see the appeal.
Come on, Commodore got Chris bleedin' Evans to promote the CD32!!! That must put it beyond all doubt.
The C64 console is a pretty close contender. I recall the adverts for it and thinking it was some kind of sick joke - even by NES standards it was awful and like Ady says they released the thing at a time when 16-bit machines were entering the market. Plus it looked every inch a 1980's console. Turd.
Let's just say that Commodore win, yeah?

TA: Guardian was nothing like a Starfox ripoff. It was Defender in 3D!
Duddyroar: I'm not supporting the CD32 as I too thought it was complete ****e, but Roadkill and Guardian certainly on the A1200 held my appeal for just as long as Tempest did (in Roadkill's case, even longer). I just think it's a little harsh when it had 3-4 incredibly solid games against the Jag which had one minted one and one very good one. They're both as bad as each other IMO.
But the C64GS or the Virtual Boy win it, tbh. At least the GX4000 had a half decent software range. What did the C64GS have? Shadow of the Beast and Commodore Football!?Last edited by hankwangford; 20-10-2004, 13:04.
